Villanova Hosts Old Dominion Sunday in WNIT

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats will host the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs in the second round of the WNIT on Sunday, March 22. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Villanova enters play with a 20-13 overall record, while Old Dominion is 21-12 on the season.

Villanova advanced to the second round with a 71-60 win over Maine in a first round game on Friday evening. Freshman guard Alex Louin led four Wildcats in double figures with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range. Senior forward Lauren Burford was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range for 15 points, while junior guard Caroline Coyer had 12 points and sophomore forward Samantha Wilkes added 10 points.

The Wildcats and Lady Monarchs will be meeting for just the second time and first since 1989 when the two teams play on Sunday in the second round of the WNIT. In the only previous meeting, Old Dominion defeated Villanova by a score of 66-41 in the first round of the 1989 NCAA Tournament. The game was played on Old Dominion's campus.

By virtue of its 71-60 win over Maine in the first round of the WNIT, the Villanova Wildcats registered their third consecutive 20-win season and the 17th, 20-win campaign of head coach Harry Perretta's Villanova career. Over the last three seasons, the Wildcats have tallied a record of 62-33.

Villanova is led by Coyer who leads the team in scoring (13.5 ppg.), assists (145), steals (45) and minutes played (35.2). Senior center Emily Leer ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game and she leads the squad in blocks (39) and field goal percentage (.491). Senior forward Taylor Holeman is Villanova's top rebounder at 5.7 per game.
