Raptors' Larson earns NJAC Softball Player of the Week

Rp_primary_Larson-Katie_DSC_6068CAMDEN, N.J. – Rutgers University-Camden junior third baseman Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) turned in a stellar performance while helping the Scarlet Raptors post a 5-1 record in their six games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week.

Larson's big week earned her honors today as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Larson compiled staggering statistics with a .667 batting average (14-for-21) and a 1.190 slugging percentage during the week. Half of her hits went for extra bases as she ripped four doubles, two triples and one home run. She scored six runs and led the team with 12 RBIs in the six games. She also added one sacrifice hit.

Larson hit safely in five of the six games she played in Myrtle Beach, with all five being multiple-hit games. She went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double in her opening game against Eureka College March 16. After going 0-for-2 in the second game that day against Guilford, she rattled off three-hit games in each of the last four contests, coming against Eureka and Mount St. Vincent on March 17 and against Frostburg State and York (New York) on March 20.

In the doubleheader against Eureka and Mount St. Vincent, she went a combined 6-for-8 with two runs, four RBIs, two doubles and a home run. In the Frostburg/York doubleheader, she was a combined 6-for-7 with two runs, six RBIs, one double and two triples.

A third-year starter at the hot corner for the Scarlet Raptors, Larson is hitting .552 overall through her first nine games. She has five doubles, two triples, one home run, six runs and 12 RBIs, while adding one walk and one sacrifice. For the season she owns a .966 slugging percentage and a .567 on-base percentage.

Larson, who also was named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week on Monday, has collected five multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games so far this season, both tops on the team.

Larson becomes the first Scarlet Raptor to earn the NJAC Softball Player of the Week honor since Jackie Leafey won it on March 25, 2013.
