Joann M. Hoke, of Haddon Township, Teacher at Oaklyn Public Schools and St. Rose of Lima

Joann M. Hoke (nee Kowal), on February 19, 2015 of Haddon Township, age 70. Joann was 2973729_wlppborn in Camden, New Jersey to the late Mitchell and Elma Kowal. She dedicated the majority of her adult life to teaching fifth grade students in the Oaklyn Public Schools and St. Rose of Lima in Haddon Heights. As a teacher, Joann encouraged her students to strive for excellence and challenge themselves beyond their expectations. No one was more determined to impart love, generosity, good will and knowledge upon her family, friends and students than Joann, who passed away after a long illness. 

 

Joann was married to John P. Hoke for nearly forty-three years in an evolving partnership of 6a00d8341bf7d953ef0192ac4fe308970d-200wiunconditional love. Joann’s dedication to her family extended to her beloved son, John J. Hoke (Marisol Jennifer) of Niskayuna, and grandchildren, Jack and Maya, whom affectionately referred to her as Nan. All that they are, and all that they hope to be, owe much to Nan’s love and generosity. Dear sister of Mitchell Kowal, Jr. (Eileen), Karen Isky (Ken), and the late Barbara Faust and Janice Vincent. Godmother to Kevin and Kelly Isky. 

Joann was blessed with a retirement in which she continued a life dedicated to service through her active participation in Interfaith Caregivers while also continuing her life-long friendship with Jo-Ann Rocca as they traveled the western hemisphere with the traveling ladies of leisure. 

There will be a visitation from 9:00 AM to 10AM Saturday, February 28th at St. Joseph’s Church, 101 Liberty Street, Camden. Memorial Mass 10 AM at the Church. Internment private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, a gift in Joann’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church.
