On Tuesday, March 3, 2015 the Bayshore Communities Recovery Committee will present a full assessment of the ambitious, 26-project Recovery Plan introduced in the winter of 2014.
The Bayshore Communities Recovery Plan can be found online at: http://discoverdelawarebay.org/cumberland-county-delaware-bayshore-recovery-plan/.
The event is free of charge and is open to the public. Attendees are strongly encouraged to RSVP with the Bayshore Center at Bivalve and can do so by emailing Recovery Committee secretary Phillip Tomlinson at [email protected] or by calling (856) 785-2060, ext. 113.
The Bayshore Communities Recovery Committee is a coalition which comprises federal, state, county and local governments, non-profit organizations and other Bayshore region stakeholders. The committee was formed in the summer of 2013 at the behest of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to the damage inflicted on the region by Superstorm Sandy.
The group's mission was to formulate and implement a comprehensive recovery plan that would address not only the immediate effects of the storm, but also work to build resiliency and sustainability in the areas of shoreline protection, infrastructure, economic development and intergovernmental relations.
In January of 2014 the Recovery Committee completed its planning process and adopted the Bayshore Communities Recovery Plan which outlines 26 specific projects across each of the four sectors, and which was introduced to the public in February of that year.
After the plan was introduced, the Bayshore Communities Recovery Committee turned its attention toward the implementation of the identified projects, and has worked to realize the goals set forth in the Recovery Plan.
Implementation of the plan has been a steady process involving the work of the original entities engaged in the planning process as well as a range of partners from the federal, state, county and local governments, state colleges and universities, and environmental commissions and other non-profit and for-profit organizations.
On March 3, 2015 the Recovery committee will present to the public a full assessment of its activities to date, and review the progress made towards the implementation of the goals defined by the Recovery Plan.
Anyone interested in learning about the progress made towards the realization of the goals outlined in the plan is encouraged to attend, and any questions can be directed towards Recovery Committee secretary Phillip Tomlinson at (856) 785-2060 or via email at [email protected].
