Long-Time Brooklawn Resident Chalie Tourtual Succumbs, Served in the NJ National Guard, GHS Alumnus, Men of Malvern, Ray Ford Old Timers

BROOKLAWN NJ--Charles M. Tourtual, a man with a strong work ethic, who always had a smile on his face, and was willing to help anyone who needed a hand, died on December 31, 2014 after a year-long battle with Lou Gehrig Disease, also known as ALS. He was 76 years old.
A long-time resident of Brooklawn, NJ, he was raised in nearby Gloucester City. In 1958, he graduated from Gloucester City High School. He worked for Ragen Trucking for a number of years, and also Bell Telephone. Prior to his death, he worked for the Brooklawn School District.
Mr. Tourtual, also known as “Sonny”, served in the NJ National Guard with the 50th Armored Division, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 114th Infantry, headquartered in Pitman NJ. He, along with his unit, was activated in 1967 during the riots in Newark, NJ. He was a member of the Ray Ford Old-Timers, The Gloucester City Breakfast Club, The Fantastic 50s and Men of Malvern.
Beloved son of the late Charles and Edna Tourtual, Loving father of Jill M. Tourtual, Ph.D., of Clarksboro, and Eve M. Fenton ( Robert) of West Deptford. Dear brother of Shirley Berryman, Ruth Murphy (Thomas), William Tourtual ( Eileen), Diane Goldy ( Frank) and the late Edna " Dolly" Albertson. Devoted grandfather of Elizabeth, Abigail, and Rebecca Fenton. Dear friend of Faith and Tony Milone. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30 AM at the Etherington-Creran Funeral Home, 700 Powell Street, Gloucester City, N.J. 08030. Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Gloucester City, N.J. Interment New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr.
