How New York Football Greats Salute Fallen NYPD Officers

by Melissa Quinn/The Daily Signal Less than 24 hours after two New York City police officers were shot and killed in broad daylight Saturday, New York Jets player Nick Mangold and New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin publicly honored the slain officers. Mangold, a center for the Jets, sported a black NYPD baseball cap yesterday while walking into Metlife Stadium. The five-time Pro Bowler’s gesture followed the deaths of officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos in an execution-style shooting as they sat in their patrol car working overtime in Brooklyn. Coughlin, a two-time Super Bowl winner, displayed a more subtle tribute to the slain police officers during the Giants’ away game against the St. Louis Rams. We wore this because the New York Giants wanted to honor and mourn the assassination of the two New York City policemen that took place last night in our city,” Coughlin said after... Read more →

CNBNEWS ARCHIVES APRIL 2007: Millions of Dollars Wasted by Past City Administrations

CNBNEWS ARCHIVES Sunday, April 15, 2007 So many mistakes; no wonder taxes have increased year after year after year By William E. Cleary Sr. Watching the Channel 19 broadcast of the March Gloucester City council meeting I am amazed how the "Lame-Duck" incumbents (Loebell, Kaye, and Kormann) tried to defend their practice of giving some city employees longevity pay increases and vacation bonuses. For years certain employees have been receiving vacations bonuses of between four and nine percent. Do the math; a vacation bonus for some supervisors at the tune of $9,000 or more would be quite possible. Research by Councilman Jay Brophy revealed that practice was done away with years ago by the majority of communities in the state. The outgoing office holders said those employees should continue to receive the perk. The hell with the residents, Kaye, Kormann and Loebell, voted "No" against the City's new spending plan.... Commentary: CONGRESS BY THE NUMBERS

Volume XIX No.51: December 19, 2014 Sine Die. That’s the Latin phrase for spells the end of the 113thCongress. Phew. While we have a couple weeks before the 114th is sworn in it is worth reviewing what this Congress accomplished … and didn’t. The most frequent descriptors you hear about this Congress are dysfunctional and do-nothing. Well, they did do something, but they also left a lot to be taken up by the 114th. By the numbers, 351 pieces of legislation (bills, resolutions, joint resolutions) were passed by both the House and Senate. 25 were simple resolutions that are more about Congressional housekeeping and never get sent to the President. These cover things like minor corrections in passed legislation as it is engrossed and authorizing the use of the Capitol for ceremonies. That leaves you with 326. All legislation isn’t created equal. Congress just passed a $1.1 trillion spending bill,... Read more →

Holidays: The perfect time to recycle | cnbnews.net

DOVER (Dec. 20, 2014) – DNREC reminds Delawareans that holiday time is the right time to trim your “wasteline” while helping the environment – by recycling all those extra mail order boxes, gift-wrapped packages, tags and cards. "As the cold weather of winter approaches, it is important for families to take precautionary measures to prevent CO poisoning," said Commissioner O'Dowd. "There are three steps every family should take: 1) have your oil or gas furnace inspected every year; 2) use battery-operated CO detectors near every sleeping area in your home, and check them regularly to make sure they are working; and 3) never use a generator inside your home or garage." Judge Denies Motion to Dimiss Indictment Against Mickleton Woman

WOODBURY NJ (December 18, 2014)--A judge today denied a motion to dismiss an indictment against a Mickleton NJ woman charging her with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child in a 2010 incident that left her seven-month old child with fractured femur. An attorney for Laura McKenna (DOB 7/30/74) argued that the legal principle of “collateral estoppel” - barring re-litigation of a case- applies to the criminal charges, since the state’s Child Protection and Permanency agency had already investigated the injury and a Family Court ruling had resulted. Defense attorney Bridget Green noted that the state child welfare agency is represented in court by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and that office also oversees county prosecutor’s offices, including Gloucester County’s, which is prosecuting McKenna. “This criminal litigation should be barred by collateral estoppel,” Green said. Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Temperance Williamson told Superior Court Judge... Read more →

CRIME: Texas Leads Charge Against Obama's Immigration Policy

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (CN) - President Obama's executive order on immigration violates the Constitution, which gives Congress "exclusive authority to ... set immigration policies," 27 Republican congressmen claim in an amicus brief. The brief supports a lawsuit filed Dec. 3 by 18 Republican-controlled states against Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and top officials of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. In that lawsuit, the states object to President Obama's Nov. 14 announcement that he would, the states claim , "unilaterally suspend the immigration laws as applied to 4 million of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States." Obama's directive applies to around 4 million undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and lawful residents, who will not face deportation for the remainder of his term under... Read more →

By Hans von Spakovsky PHILADELPHIA PA (DECEMBER 19, 2014)--A grand jury convened by Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams has indicted two Democratic state legislators for accepting bribes in exchange for voting against a voter ID bill, among other legislative actions. The grand jury findings also represent a withering rejection of the unjustifiable behavior of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who shut down the three-year investigation that caught state Democratic legislators on video and audio tapes taking bribes. Williams stepped in and successfully prosecuted the case. As the grand jury reported, it had 26 recordings featuring Rep. Ronald G. Waters, who accepted nine cash payments from a confidential informant totaling $8,750. The grand jury had 24 recordings of Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown accepting five cash payments totaling $4,000. FBI Releases Update on Sony Investigation

Today, the FBI would like to provide an update on the status of our investigation into the cyber attack targeting Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). In late November, SPE confirmed that it was the victim of a cyber attack that destroyed systems and stole large quantities of personal and commercial data. A group calling itself the “Guardians of Peace” claimed responsibility for the attack and subsequently issued threats against SPE, its employees, and theaters that distribute its movies. The FBI has determined that the intrusion into SPE’s network consisted of the deployment of destructive malware and the theft of proprietary information as well as employees’ personally identifiable information and confidential communications. The attacks also rendered thousands of SPE’s computers inoperable, forced SPE to take its entire computer network offline, and significantly disrupted the company’s business operations. After discovering the intrusion into its network, SPE requested the FBI’s assistance. Since then, the... Read more →

WIND Has Still Got Legs! /cnbnews.net

NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It may have premiered 75 years ago, but it would appear that Wind has still got legs: when asked to name their favorite movie of all time, the septuagenarian Civil War epic Gone with the Wind is Americans' top pick again (the film was also America's favorite movie in 2008). With six movies in the can and a much-discussed trailer now making the rounds for Episode Seven, Star Wars soars into the same runner up position it held in 2008. Meanwhile, Titanic is doing anything but sinking; after not making the top 10 in 2008, the 1997 love story may not quite be king of the world this time around – but surely rounding out the top three is none too shabby. Grandparents, Keep Your Meds Away from Kids

(NewsUSA) - Grandparents love spending time with their grandchildren. Grandbabies bring so much joy. However, it's not unusual for the curious, tiny fingers of youngsters to end up in places they shouldn't. Putting precious or breakable objects out of reach is important, and so is keeping medicines and vitamins up and away and out of sight of young children. Far too often, that medicine belonged to a grandparent. Where are young children getting their hands on medicines? From countertops and bedside tables, purses and pockets, and loose pills on tables or floors. Weekly pill minders can help you keep track of multiple medications, but they rarely have child-resistant features so a curious child can't get into the... Read more →
