LETTERS: If Christie Wont Resign Start A Recall
Tuesday, December 23, 2014
In response to the recent poll story which found a majority of New Jerseyans wanting Gov. Christie to resign if he runs for President, New Jersey's Constitution sets up a long and complicated process for the recall of government officials, including the governor. For starters, 25 percent of registered voters must sign the petitions, within 320 days of initiating the process.
However, just getting the ball rolling would focus media attention in New Jersey and across the country. That would lead to rattling Gov. Christie's cage, acting out and further damaging his image with voters, supporters and his party. If at that point he still feels that he's a viable candidate for any elective position, he'd be having delusions of grandeur.
This, alone, might urge our "absentee governor" to resign and allow our lieutenant governor to bring the state back to normal.
