(Camden, NJ) – Camden County Police Department Sergeant Janell Simpson caught a suspect with an illegal handgun during a quality of life operation Wednesday night.

Sgt. Simpson was supervising a quality of life operation addressing quality of life issues around 7:45 p.m. in the area of Broadway and Walnut Street when she observed Andre Kinard, 23, of Camden, discard a gun in an empty lot near the corner. Sgt. Simpson stopped Kinard and placed him under arrest without incident. Officers then recovered the weapon – a loaded 9mm Beretta handgun.

Kinard was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons. The Certain Persons charge is based on a prior conviction for drug distribution. Kinard was remanded to the county jail with bail set at $200,000 cash or bond.
