Berlin NJ man pleads to Glassboro drug, gun offenses

WOODBURY NJ (December 23, 2014)--Byron A. Sills (DOB 10/24/88), of Berlin NJ faces consecutive sentences totaling eight years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to possessing more than an ounce of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a handgun during commission of a narcotics crime in Glassboro NJ on 6/21/13.
Sills pleaded guilty to the third degree marijuana charge and the second-degree weapons offense on Monday (12/22) before Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker following negotiations with Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Staci Scheetz. Judge Becker accepted the pleas and scheduled sentencing for 3/25/15.
At sentencing, AP Scheetz will recommend that Sills be ordered to serve three years for the marijuana crime. Consecutive to that, the prosecutor will recommend a five year sentence on the weapon offense, with a requirement that Sills serve three years before he is eligible for parole.
The marijuana and a Ruger .380 semiautomaric handgun were found by a Glassboro police officer during a vehicle stop.
