TCNJ Field Hockey beats Bowdoin for 11th NCAA title
EWING, NJ (11/24/2014)(readMedia)-- The College of New Jersey Lions captured the 2014 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship on Sunday, Nov. 23 in Lexington, Virginia. The Lions posted a 2-0 victory over Bowdoin College on Sunday, November 23 in Lexington, VA to claim the 11th national crown in program history.

TCNJ (23-1) scored twice in the opening half and then relied on its stellar defense to protect that lead and secure the title. They defeated Middlebury College 2-0 in national semifinal to earn a berth into the championship game.
The Lions finished the year on a 15-game winning streak and did not allow a single goal during their NCAA tournament run. They outscored their opponents 9-0 in the four NCAA victories.
Earlier this month, TCNJ won the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship and received the automatic qualifying bid to the national tournament.
TCNJ's other NCAA titles came in 1981, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2011. This was ninth field hockey championship for Head Coach Sharon Pfluger. It also marks the 40th national title in TCNJ athletics program history.
