WOODBURY NJ November 21, 2014--Bryon King-Washington (DOB 3/8/90) of Logan Township NJ was sentenced today (11/21) to a series of concurrent four and five year New Jersey state prison sentences stemming from residential burglaries in Harrison, Mantua and Woolwich townships in 2012 and 2013, including one in which the victim said her deceased mother’s wedding ring was stolen.
“I can never replace that ring and this was the only personal item she left me. I’m sickened by this and now I cannot pass this on to my daughter to keep it in our family,” the victim wrote in a letter read in court by Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Michelle Jeneby.
Jeneby asked for an additional 30 days to total restitution requests which she said were “voluminous.”
The five-year prison sentences were imposed for violations of probation since some offenses occurred while King-Washington was under supervision in the Superior Court’s Drug Court program. He must serve 2 ½ years of those concurrent sentences before he is eligible for parole. King-Washington will receive varying numbers of jail credits for time served awaiting prosecution of the charges, ranging up to 639 days. He has been held in default of $35,000 bail.
King-Washington pleaded guilty to the burglary and theft charges on 8/11/14.
In sentencing him, Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson noted that King-Washington was a high school graduate with 48 credits as a biology major at the University of Albany (NY) but has an addiction and “will remain lawless until it is effectively dealt with.” King-Washington did not speak at the sentencing.
