NORCROSS INITIATIVE CREATING VETERAN LICENSE PLATES FOR MOTORCYLCES ADVANCES

(TRENTON) – The Senate Transportation Committee has advanced legislation by Senator Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester) that creates special motorcycle license plates for veterans.

“Veteran motorcyclists should be able to proudly display the fact that they have served our country with honor,” said Senator Norcross. “Veterans are a significant population of the motorcycle community in our state, and many have approached me about this issue. I am honored to stand with them in securing these plates.”

Bill S836 authorizes the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to issue special license plates to veterans who own or lease motorcycles. The NJ MVC already issues veteran-specific license plates for cars. The license plates would bear a design approved by the Chief Administrator identifying the registrant as a veteran, and would include a $15 application fee for the plates. Surviving spouses of deceased veterans would also be allowed to retain these plates.

Bill S836 was released from committee with a unanimous vote.
