Great Lakes takes early lead in 6-5 win over Mid-Atlantic

WILLIAMSPORT PA--Four first-inning runs helped Great Lakes to a 6-5 win over Mid-Atlantic at Lamade on Thursday.
Great Lakes would not relinquish the lead as Mid-Atlantic was unable to weather a four-run second inning deficit.
Mid-Atlantic scored on a two-run single by Zion Spearman in the fourth inning and a solo home run by Kai Cummings in the fifth inning. Still, Mid-Atlantic couldn't catch Great Lakes.
Spearman boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace Mid-Atlantic.
Marquis Jackson got the win for Great Lakes. He allowed three runs over three innings. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered three hits.
Erik Lipson lasted two innings on the rubber for Mid-Atlantic before being pulled. Lipson gave up four hits and six runs.
Great Lakes closer Cameron Bufford put away the final nine outs to record the save.
In the top of the first, Mid-Atlantic grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Mid-Atlantic's rally started when Spearman doubled. Jack Rice singled, scoring Jared Sprague-Lott and Spearman.
Great Lakes piled on two more runs in the bottom of the second. A error scored Pierce Jones to start the scoring in the inning.
