BRIDGETON NJ--Bridgeton police said  warrants have been signed charging a 22-year-old Fairfield Twp. man with murder and weapons offenses for the Aug. 11th death of a Cohansey St. woman as part of an investigation conducted by local police and detectives from the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ralph Peter Jamison, with a last known address of East Ave., is charged with murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon on complaints signed by Det. Jeff Bordley, according to Capt. Michael Gaimari.

Gaimari would not release any further details on the investigation other than it appears the victim, identified as Quantasia Bessix, 20, may not have been the intended target and that several law enforcement agencies have been searching for the suspect this week but he has avoided apprehension thus far.

Detectives have basically been working around the clock on this and other similar investigations over the past 10 days, but this investigation had always remained a priority from the start,” Gaimari said, “anyone with information as to the suspect’s whereabouts should contact Bridgeton police or their local law enforcement agency. Information gathered during the investigation indicates the suspect should be considered still armed.”

Bessix sustained a gunshot wound as she fled a porch on North St. on foot after a vehicle reportedly drove by firing shots at the residence, according to reports. Police recovered the vehicle the next day as part of the investigation and charges authorized later last week, according to police.

According to police, the investigations into the domestic-related death of 23-year-old Passaic man who died Aug. 14 at Inspira Regional Medical Center in Vineland following an incident on Aug. 12 in the city and the shooting death of a man in the 300-block of Bank St. Aug. 16 are progressing. A suspect who engaged the victim after he was reportedly attacking a female at a residence on Ellis St. was taken to police headquarters and questioned as a result of the domestic-related incident, but no charges have been filed thus far. Gaimari said the matter has been turned over to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police are also still attempting to positively identify and locate family members of the victim of Saturday night’s shooting of a 25-year-old N. Laurel St. man on Bank St. Gaimari said police will not release the victim’s name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. Officers were called to the area shortly after 11 PM Saturday on reports of shots being fired and found the victim in the roadway where he was pronounced dead by responding medical personnel. According to reports, the victim suffered “more than one” gunshot wound and that evidence gathered at the scene and witness statements indicate the victim, who is reportedly Hispanic, exited a vehicle that was traveling north on Bank St. and stopped in the roadway, just before other occupant(s) also exited the vehicle and fired several shots. That vehicle then left the scene with the suspect(s), according to reports.
