Fellow Catholics Should Unite As One

Posted Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Petition Ask Bishop Galante to Keep St.Anne's Church Open! Recently Bishop Joseph A. Galante had announced that many of the Catholic Churches of the Camden Diocese were to be merged or closed all together. I started a petition drive for St. Anne's Church in Westville that collected more than 800 signatures. I personally delivered these petitions myself to the Bishops office. Of course I was met before I could approach by security. I was however politely told without an appointment I could not enter the building. The guard was extremely polite and offered to deliver the package for me, and he did, my thanks to him. I did however wonder what the Bishop feared that you could not even see a secretary to try to make an appointment. Finally, three weeks later I received a reply, a two-sentence letter. Needless to say how thrilled I... Read more →

LETTERS to the ED: Senate President on the Importance of Labor Day | cnbnews.net

To the Editor: As we enjoy time with our families during this holiday weekend, it is also important to remember what Labor Day represents. It’s about the struggle of people in this country to have safe working conditions and good wages. It’s about fighting for things in New Jersey like Paid Family Leave and an increase in the minimum wage. Organized labor has made significant strides in the last century, which we will proudly recognize during Peter J. McGuire Day. And we also recognize the contributions of Paterson’s own Matthew Maguire. But there is always more that can be done. We can ensure equal work for equal pay, raise the minimum wage across the nation - not just in New Jersey - and, we can keep the promise we made to workers that their pensions will be there for them when they retire. All of these things are not only... Read more →

Pet Tip of the Week: Puppy Mouthing (cnbnews.net)

by Dawn Watson (cnbnews.net) Mouthing, when applied to a dog’s behavior, is the application of teeth onto flesh without the intent to do harm. As puppies, dogs are taught appropriate behavior by their mothers. If a puppy should mouth its mother, the mother would put an end to the behavior by scruffing the puppy (grabbing it by its skin at the top of the neck). However, most dogs are removed from their mother and litter mates before the age of 12 weeks and the teaching of good manners is left up to the human that purchases or adopts the dog. When a dog mouths you can correct that behavior with a loud exclamation, such as “No!” or “Leave it!” Then, stop the playtime altogether for a period of time. Gradually, the dog will understand that mouthing is unacceptable. Never punish the dog with a physical correction—violence toward animals causes defensive... Read more →

Consumers Warned About Credit Card Phone Scams

HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen G. "It is important that consumers be proactive and educated about scams like these that threaten their financial and personal security," Attorney General Kane said. "You can protect yourself by staying calm and not rushing to act, which is exactly what these scammers hope you do." In the last few weeks, the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection has received similar complaints from multiple consumers regarding this scam. The scam consists of an automated call from a toll-free number telling the consumer that a hold has been placed on their credit or debit card account. If the consumer believes it is their card, they are asked to... Read more →

Two of this season’s nesting plovers might stand as evidence supporting long-held speculation among biologists that plovers that nest in Delaware will return to breed here again in the future. 6,500 PLUS SWAT RAIDS IN MARYLAND SINCE 2010

August 19, 2014 by Mark Newge Maryland law enforcement agencies conducted more than 6,500 SWAT raids over the last four fiscal years. Maryland law enforcement agencies that maintain a special weapons and tactics unit are required by law to report specific action and deployment data to the Maryland Statistical Analysis Center, within the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The reports were mandated into law in 2009 in the wake of the Prince George’s County Police Department’s mistaken SWAT raid on the home of Berwyn Heights, Mayor Cheye Calvo, which resulted in in Calvo’s two black Labrador retrievers dead from gunshot wounds and no criminals apprehended. According to the four published SWAT reports for fiscal years 2010-2013 show that SWAT units in Maryland conducted 6,560 raids an average of 4.5 raids per day. TRENTON - The Christie Administration, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and environmental and academic partners, has launched an $8 million pilot project that will evaluate the effectiveness of a new process that uses clean dredge materials to restore salt marshes to make coastal communities more resilient against future storms. The project will also study the benefits of using this approach to create a much-needed option for disposal of materials dredged from waterways to keep them navigable. It will also create habitat for endangered wildlife. "We are very excited about this project and believe it has the potential to provide many benefits in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner," said Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin. "It has the potential to make coastal communities naturally more storm resilient while helping to solve the problem of where to dispose sediment that builds up and impedes navigation in... CHUCKLES: ID ten T error

CNB NOTE: below submitted by Bonnie Flegler , if you have an interesting story, a chuckle, a video you like to share send it to [email protected] +++++ As we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers. Yesterday, I had a problem, so I called Georgie, the 11- year- old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over. I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.' Georgie grinned...'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before? 'No,' I replied. 'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.' So... Read more →

CNB Guest Commentary: Garbage Data In, Garbage Data Out

Volume XVI No.34: August 22, 2014 Taxpayers for Common Sense Prior to taking office as President, one of Senator Obama’s major accomplishments was the enactment of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (FFATA), a bill he co-authored with Oklahoma Republican Senator Coburn. The Department of Health and Human Services alone neglected to disclose assistance awards totaling a whopping $544 billion, which were almost entirely direct payments to individuals (e.g. doctors). The Department is now reporting that data in an aggregated form. The whole debacle underscores the... Read more →
