WASHINGTON, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Geographic Channel today announced it will kick off July Fourth weekend with the ultimate '90s #TBT ("Throw Back Thursday") party. Hosted by Vanilla Ice aka Robert Van Winkle, the all-day event will take place Thursday, July 3, at The Sloppy Tuna in Montauk, N.Y., and will celebrate the premiere of National Geographic Channel's miniseries event: The '90s: The Last Great Decade? narrated by Rob Lowe and airing July 6-8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The event will transport partygoers back to a time when the world made new "Friends"; everyone danced the Macarena; and Dylan and Brenda ruled the school.
Nostalgic for a time when smartphones were nonexistent and the Spice Girls ruled the radio waves? Additional party features include a life-size Jenga; '90s giveaways and raffle prizes including N64, Furbys and Super-Soakers; nonstop '90s music; Gameboy-shaped ice luge; and a themed photo booth. Attendees are encouraged to share their experience at the event on social media using the hashtag #natgeo90s.
National Geographic Channel has also joined forces with The Free Ride, a company that provides free shuttle rides to beachgoers in the Hamptons and the New Jersey shore. Each of the four cars will be outfitted with '90s wraps and a video iPad inside to play content from the miniseries event. The cars will run from Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, July 9. The Hamptons route includes Southampton and Easthampton; the Jersey Shore route includes Asbury Park.
About The '90s: The Last Great Decade?
The 10 years sandwiched between the Cold War and the war on terror was a decade of highs and lows. Bill Clinton swept into office on the promise of change; we all made new "Friends"; the LA Riots kept us glued to our TVs; the music industry gave us something — Nirvana, Tupac the Macarena — for everyone; "The Real World" and Jerry Springer changed the television programming landscape. It's a decade that some may celebrate (Viagra!) and some may seek to forget (overalls!). With 20 years to reflect on the decade of grunge, beginningSunday, July 6, at 9 p.m. the National Geographic Channel will premiere the network's three-night miniseries event The '90s: The Last Great Decade? narrated by Rob Lowe. This defining biography of another generation will be brought to life through more than 120 original interviews including major entertainers Jason Alexander,Roseanne Barr, Arsenio Hall, Vanilla Ice, Courtney Love, Matthew Perry, Susan Sarandon and Martin Sheen; newsmakers including Tony Blair, Paula Coughlin, Christopher Darden, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Monica Lewinsky and Colin Powell; and thought leaders including Kurt Anderson, Grayson Carter, Connie Chung,Thomas Friedman, Dan Rather, David Sirota and Brian Williams. Over three nights, The '90s: The Last Great Decade? will explore the decade's most unpredictable, unforgettable and unbelievable moments like never before. For more information, visit rulethe90s.com.
