New Paper Suggests Scrapping The Health Law's Employer Mandate /KHN

MAY 12, 2014 (Kaiser Health News)--The paper, published by the Urban Institute, makes the case that this requirement will not lead to more people getting coverage because those firms that don't provide it will likely opt for the penalty. Meanwhile, news outlets also report on how the health law has become an earnings' report scapegoat as well as how premium calculations are causing small businesses confusion. The Wall Street Journal: Obamacare Question: Ditch Employer Mandate? A left-leaning think tank whose research is often taken seriously by backers of the health-care overhaul has published a paper suggesting the administration should scrap the health law’s requirement that employers offer coverage or pay a penalty. “Why Don’t We Just Get Rid of the Employer Mandate?”, by three researchers at the Urban Institute, argues that the requirement won’t lead to many more people gaining coverage, since most firms that don’t currently offer benefits to... HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane today announced the arrest of a Johnstown man, who allegedly sold heroin with the same stamps that are linked to at least seven overdoses last week. Every arrest law enforcement makes is a step towards eradicating the problem." Warning for Sandy Recovery Program Participants

Trenton, NJ – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman and Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Richard E. Other program participants reported receiving home visits, phone calls, or emails, also from individuals who claimed to be program representatives and who asked for money transfers or personal financial information. “It is outrageous that there are those who seek to illegally profit from the suffering caused by a natural disaster,” said Commissioner Constable. “There are... By ADAM KLASFELD /May 12, 2014 MANHATTAN (CN) - Though he denied having any advanced knowledge of a 1998 abduction i n Yemen, the double-amputee imam admitted today that he gave militants the satellite phone used in that attack. Radical preacher Mustafa Kamel Mustafa, better known by his nom de guerre Abu Hamza al-Masri, is now standing trial a decade and a half later for his alleged role in that attack and two unrelated plots from that era. Op-Ed: Some Enchanted Evening

BY TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE (May 9, 2014)-- Remember the Broadway musical “South Pacific?” One of its many memorable songs describes that moment when, across a crowded room, you recognize your true love. The refrain: “Once you have found her, never let her go…” strikes us as a fitting analogy for Congress’ inability to let go of parochial interests and just get on with legislating. Wednesday night was evidently just such an enchanted evening during the House Armed Services Committee’s consideration of the Pentagon authorization bill for fiscal year (FY)2015. The committee worked on the bill from mid-morning Wednesday until just after midnight on Thursday. But, as so often happens late at night, common sense flew out the window. Consider the fate of several Pentagon attempts to save some money: Round of base closures (BRAC) in 2017 – rejected by Chairman McKeon in his draft of the legislation, Rep. Adam... Read more →

Guilty of Meanness: City Contemplates Criminal Penalties for 'Bullies'

GUEST COMMENTARY Photo: Daniel Wallace/St. Petersburg Times/ZUMAPRESS.com By Evan Bernick CARSON, CALIF.May 8, 2014--Ever texted something less than civil? Something that could be considered “mean,” even? If you do it a few times in the city of Carson, Calif., you could be found guilty of a crime. Carson is considering an ordinance that would criminalize bullying, defined as “a willful course of conduct which involves harassment of a person(s) from kindergarten through age 25.” According to the ordinance, “harassment” includes conduct that “would cause a person to feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated, threatened, harassed or molested and which serves no legitimate purpose.” Violation of the ordinance would be a misdemeanor. What on Earth does this mean? Like a similar anti-bullying ordinance in Vernon County, Wis., that we wrote about last year, this ordinance appears unconstitutionally vague. As the U.S. Supreme Court stated in Bouie v. City of Columbia (1964), the Constitution’s... Read more →

U.S. Uses New Anti-Gravity-Attack Craft Against Taliban

May 8, 2014 -- (TRN) -- The United States has deployed and used a new Anti-Gravity-Attack Craft armed with Pulsed-Plasma Weapons and used it against a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan during this past March. We have video of the craft, and its silent, devastating weapons attacking a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan. The craft even intercepts and detonates a rocket-propelled grenade fired at it, doing so in mid-air before the RPG could impact the craft. This latest weapons revelation comes as Russia engaged its entire military in a nationwide "nuclear attack drill" wherein the Russians fired land and sea-based ICBM's, air-launched cruise missiles and even space-based missile countermeasures this morning. The Drill involved the ENTIRE military and contained a scenario which simulated "launch-while-under-nuclear-attack" conditions. Russia conducted this drill at the exact same time that a Russian aircraft Carrier entered the English Channel. NATO believes this "snap" drill is a not-so-subtle attempt... Read more →

CNBNEWS ARCHIVES : Daughter of Former Fire Chief Has Questions for City Career Firemen

POSTED ON CNBNEWS.NET Tuesday, November 13, 2007 GLOUCESTER CITY NJ (Nov. 13, 2007)-It was with interest that I read the articles about the Gloucester City Fire Department and the dispute over "Overtime." During the 1940's and early 1950's there were several large industries located on Charles Street at the river. They caught fire frequently. During that time my father was the Fire Chief of Gloucester City. He was a volunteer chief. A large bell was located on the side of our house. When the fire siren sounded, the bell rang out loud and clear. Many times, I was awakened from a sound sleep by the alarm. I usually did not return to sleep, but spent the time praying that my father would return home safely. There were many times when he would be fighting the fire for several hours in the middle of the night. He would return home, get... Read more →

I thought this was a "Federal Offense," but I was informed that once the mail is placed in a customer's mailbox, stealing that mail is a local matter to be reported to the local cops. I was also told that some of the thieves use a lookout system whereby one crook spies on the residence, and when the mail gets delivered, the spy alerts the thief that the mail is now in the box. In fact, it was on last Thursday or Friday... Read more →

The requirement will raise first-tier subcontractors’ pay to $10.88/hour beginning with contracts sought two weeks from today, and then $12/hour beginning January 1, 2015. “No person who works on City contract should live in poverty. We must create ladders of opportunity, we must give America a raise,” said Nutter. “President Obama presented the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, but Congress wouldn’t be swayed by the 35 million hardworking Americans living below the poverty line or without a living wage. I'm not the type to start a conversation in the restroom but I don't know what got into me, so I answered, somewhat embarrassed, "Doin' just fine!" And the other person says: "So what are you up to?" What kind of question is that? At that point, I'm thinking this is too bizarre so I say: "Uhhh, I'm like you, just traveling!" At this point I am just trying to get out as fast as I can when I hear another question. "Can I come over?" Ok, this question is just too weird for me but I figured I could just be polite and end the conversation. I tell them "No.......I'm a little busy right now!!!" Then I hear the person... Read more →

Tips for Choosing the Best Summer Camp for Kids

Runnemede, NJ (Grassroots Newswire) May 5, 2014 - The “official” start of summer may be Memorial Day Weekend, but parents with school-age children need to begin to think about summer camp programs now. Tony Serrano, Franchise Owner of Kiddie Academy of Runnemede, an educationally focused child care provider in Runnemede, reminds parents that popular camp programs fill up quickly, so for the widest choice of programs that fit your children’s and your family’s needs, the time to start the search is now. “Parents want their children to be safe, active and happy at camp,” said Tony Serrano. “Kids want to have fun, spend time with friends, and feel like they are on vacation. BY CNBNEWS THE TAX COLLECTOR COMETH—The Acting state Education Commissioner David Hespe on Tuesday said he doesn't know whether Gov. Chris Christie's administration will cut education funding to help close an $807 million state budget gap, but he assumes "there's going to be some impact." Under questioning from members of the state Assembly Budget Committee, Hespe said $400 million in state aid to districts is still to be paid, but did not say if all or a portion of that would be withheld. “I’m not sure what impacts it will have on individual districts or the department of education. I don’t have the ability to take anything off the table.” The Christie administration last week said the shortfall for the current budget, which... Read more →

(Lights) Having flown on over 1,000 airplane flights and talked about this sighting to scientists, radio wave researchers, air traffic controllers and pilots, I thought I would share my theories with you. First of all the craft was not a "flying saucer" but an oval aircraft with outside bands rotating... Read more →
