Sicklerville Man Tries to Escape on ATV, Charged with Resisting Arrest and 12 MV Violations

On May 17, 2014 at approximately 4:02 PM, the Gloucester Township Police
The rider, later identified as Elgin Buchanan, drove off recklessly at high rates of speed through the neighborhood streets, across lawns and sidewalks where he narrowly missed striking a seven (7) year old childDepartment (GTPD) Operations Response Unit was conducting directed police patrols on bicycle in the area of Loch Lomand Drive. These officers heard the noise of all terrain vehicles (ATV's) being operated in the residential area. Upon observing one four wheeler ATV rider, driving illegally and not wearing a helmet, the officers ordered him to stop. The male rider pulled up next to one bicycle officer, ignoring his request, and took off at a high rate of speed.
The officers called backup units to assist as the rider was observed to have fled to the rear wood line of the complex where he turned off the ATV, as he attempted to silently push it to a friend's house in the neighborhood. The bicycle officers closed in and commanded the rider to stop when he ran off on foot, but was quickly apprehended after a short pursuit and taken into custody after resisting arrest.
The accused, Elgin Buchanan, was charged with Eluding Law Enforcement Officers While Creating a Risk of Injury or Death, Resisting Arrest, Resisting By Flight and issued twelve (12) motor vehicle violations along with one (1) local ordinance violation. He was processed and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in default of a $50,000 full cash bail. His ATV was impounded from the scene.
