CNBNews Archives 2007: Gloucester City Mayor and Council, WHERE IS THE CHANGE?

We as residents were told change was going to happen when new candidates were elected?
It is obvious Gloucester City needs a City Planner and a Beautification Committee.
Also, Mayor and Council need to take a walking tour of surrounding communities, such as Haddon Avenue in Collingswood, Station Avenue in Haddon Heights, and Merchant Street in Audubon – to name a few, and then come back to Gloucester and walk down Broadway.
Need I say anymore?
Personally, I would be embarrassed if I were in their shoes, representing a City that looks like this.
Empty lots, empty buildings, no shopping district, fast food joints, Section Eight housing, buildings painted every color of the rainbow, to mention a few.
But, I especially like the fact that we had a junky used car lot on Broadway as you enter from Brooklawn.
Property goes up for sale, we get rid of that eyesore, and what reappears? Another car lot! Change?
You need to look up the definition, and work on it.

Ms Ruggierio, I stronly agree with you. Our Mayor and Council stated things are going to change. Let me tell you it's not. They can't be trusted(I See). I have respect to the Old Mayor and Council members then the Newley Elect. They go around having there New Committee's that they select the people on it. Also Secret Meetings that is what there all about. "Sneek's" they are. All I have to say, The citizens that rocked the vote. Well here it is. See All and Hear All.

I'd like to commend all those involved in organizing and running the Holiday Event on December 1st. A free community event like this is certainly a step in the right direction and I hope that the powers that be continue thier efforts in putting together other positive community events like this. Having said that, I would also like to comment on the Gloucester City that I saw that night. It was strange for me to attend this event and see so few familiar faces. Having been born and raised in Gloucester I expected to see a different 'community' in attendance. Instead, I now understand what the current residents (Gloucesterites) are talking about on these blogs and in town when they refer to the 'out-of-town renters' and 'low-income renters' who now inhabit much of Gloucester. I honestly thought I was in Fairview. Although the crowd looked a bit 'rough', everyone was very nice and seemed to be enjoying the spirit of the Holidays. Overall I'd say this event was a success but it also opened my eyes as to who resides in my hometown these days. Its disturbing to see and hear some things whenever I visit home these days. I hear stories about assaults and robberies that I never remember in the past. Sure, Gloucester has never been a 'snooty' Haddonfield type town but I don't recall having or hearing about some of the problems (drugs, crime, etc.) that we currently see reported. And although Gloucester has always been a blue-collar, working class town it has never looked or seemed 'rough' or 'dangerous'. These days when I drive down Broadway and in other areas I feel like Gloucester is heading more toward becoming another Camden, not another Collingswood. I truly hope that this is not the case and I applaud and encourage the current administration and true Gloucester residents to keep striving to improve the community. It won't be easy but Good Luck!

Sounds like that last comment is coming from a typical Dumbocrat Club member."ARE YOU KIDDING ME"... When your dealt a bad hand, you can play the hand you are dealt or drop.
Things don't happen overnight. I personally like the Outgoing Council members.
But, The city of Gloucester needs a change. As for the Dumbocrat, What color is the sky in your world?

Yeah...I agree....this city needs to hire a City Planner, and pass a few ordinances about what your property can look like....Change needs to happen and soon, or this city will become just another ghetto.

6. How do you define planner? What are the duties and responsibilities of the planner?

Our city has done numerous studies an I believe there was one that addressed the same concerns the CNB comment members have on this topic. "Anything to possibly save money"
