What's Up in GCity and Elsewhere?--Back Online, Nixle, Operation Take Back

BY CNBNEWS

CNBNews Site is Back Online—After nearly a week the Typepad Team was finally able to get 6a00d8341bf7d953ef019afff9d462970d-320wiall their blogs up and running. Typepad is the host severer for ClearysNoteBook (CNBNews). Last Thursday Typepad’s site was attacked by a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service), which crashes websites and other online services for days a time. During that period CNBNews was able to post some articles and comments but our customers were unable to read the posts because the blog itself was down. Although some Typepad blogs were up and running two days ago, CNBNews.net and others with their own domain name remained down until today, April 23, 2014

Here is part of Typepad’s statement about the problem released two days ago,

“Beginning Thursday, evening, (April 17, 2014) Typepad was hit with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) off and on through today. A DDoS attack is an attempt to make services unavailable, but in no way was your Typepad account compromised. All information in your Typepad account is secure, including billing information. The attack on Typepad was similar to an attack on Basecamp which you can read about here. The Typepad blogs and application have been restored. We put in place some roadblocks to mitigate the attack, but we are on high alert as attackers change their tactics regularly. We really appreciate all members of the Typepad community and your patience during this time."

THE NIXLE PROGRAM IS FREE TO PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES—There is a great communication program available to public safety agencies for communicating with the people they serve. It is called NIXLE. It is hard to believe but a lot of police departments in the South Jersey area have not taken advantage of this free service. In an emergency a few extra minutes could save a life. PLUS THE SERVICE IS FREE!
