Frederick Wagner , age 89, of Woodbury, formerly of Gloucester City, NJ died on April 3, 2014
Fred was born in Camden to the late Walter and Helen (nee Baile) Wagner. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Lois J. (nee Rouser), his sister Charlotte (Polly) Falcey and brother Harry Wagner. Mr. Wagner graduated from Gloucester City High School in 1942 and enlisted in the US Army where he served with distinction from 1943-1946. He served under Gen. George S. Patton in the 106th Army Infantry, 3rd Army, 4th Armored Division 51st Armored Infantry Battalion, Company B. He was wounded in Czechoslovakia and received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He returned home to marry his one and only true love Lois and to work for United Technologies for 38 years.
Mr. Wagner was a very active member of the Church of the Ascension in Gloucester City, serving on the Vestry, as a Lay Reader, as Church Treasurer, as well as on numerous committees and church outreach programs. He was also a life long Gloucester City Lions sports fan and would often walk to the field to watch a football game. He was a member of the Gloucester City Old-timers Club and Cloud Lodge #101 F&AM.
Mr. Wagner is survived by many nieces and nephews including Rhea Marshall (Donna), along with his surrogate children Gail Carey (David Plummer), Carol L. Carey-Lee (William), Grant J. Carey (Kathy), and Colleen Rosa (Elbert), several great nieces and nephews and 1 great great niece. The family would like to thank Life Choice Hospice for their assistance in caring for Fred, especially Jeanna, Diana and Melissa. The aid and comfort they provided toBrenton, Gail and Carol during the final months of Mr. Wagner’s life has been exceptional. The family is happy knowing that Fred is now at peace with his “little girlfriend” for eternity. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred’s Memorial Service on Friday, 11:00 AM, at the Church of the Ascension, 110 Sussex St., Gloucester City, NJ 08030. Interment of Ashes will follow in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations to the Church of the Ascension at the address listed above would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to the Etherington-Creran Funeral Home, Gloucester City, NJ.
