I Hope They're Not On The Clock

A handful of South Jersey legislators have kept a particularly busy schedule the last few days, touring important sites, meeting with community leaders and breaking bread with men and women in the armed services.

It’s all taking place more than 5,000 miles from their hometowns, however, as members of a legislative mission to Israel, including State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3 of West Deptford), Sen. Donald Norcross (D-5 of Camden) and Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-3 of Paulsboro), prepare to wrap up a trip to the Holy Land.    Full Article

The mandatory trip to the Promised Land of campaign dollars taken by American politicians seeking higher office, with visits to the Western Wall and Holocaust memorial, and sessions with Israeli leaders to assure them of their friendship with the State of Israel. We're sending South Jersey's most famous  'ironworker' and 'electrician' ¹ on an influence-peddling vacation to the Middle East to get schooled in American foreign policy, Israeli style.

But I don't see the West Bank Palestinian refugee camps  on the itinerary.

I would like to see one of our politicians grow a pair and tell Israel to clear the 500,000 illegal Jewish settlers out of the territory they have occupied since the Six-Day War in 1967, and let the people who have been there for hundreds of years live without the the armed guards and road blocks they've been putting up with for the last 45 years.

And the next time Israel comes out with a settlement expansion statement, I would like to hear a response from an American official a little stronger than "It's not helpful."

But that will never happen as long as our political campaigns are financed by Political Action Committees (PACS).  With their multi-million dollar war chests, our politicians are afraid to face the wrath of their attack ads.

1:    When was the last time Sweeney worked with iron, or Norcross wired up anything?
