GLOUCESTER CITYNJ (CNBNews.net)—Approximately 150 gallons of heating oil was spilled into the Delaware River earlier today. The Coast Guard is supervising the cleanup which happened 8:30 a.m. this morning near Proprietors’ Park, King Street.
Officials said the oil came from Blueknight Energy Partners, L.P., located at the intersection of King Street and Jersey Avenue, which is adjacent to the park. They produce asphalt products. The company's corporate offices are located in Oklahoma City, OK. Their Gloucester City terminal occupies the former Koch Oil Tank site.
Brett Gooden, media spokesperson for the company said Blueknight has hired contractors, see photo, to clean up the spill.
He released the following statement on behalf of the company:
In accordance with our plans and procedures, we contacted the appropriate state and federal regulatory authorities early this morning when we discovered the spill. We coordinated with these regulatory authorities and with the local agencies and took immediate steps to contain the spill and the impact on the environment.
Environmental remediation specialists who are part of our response contingency team were notified to assist with the cleanup.
Our review of this incident is still in progress.
It is not known if any wildlife have been effected by the spill. Nor is it known what caused the accident.
The incident is under investigation.
