On January 4, 2014. Age 100. (nee Klaus) Lifelong resident of Gloucester City passed away at home in the loving care of her granddaughter Michelle and her family.
Marie was born to Albert and Ida Klaus (Herring) in their family home on Division Street on September 6, 1913.
Beloved wife of 46 years to the late Joseph A. Tedesco. Loving mother of Marie Cole-Weiner (late Jim), Thomas Tedesco (late Susan) and Joseph Tedesco (Peg). Cherished grandmother of ten Bill Cole, Toni Liberta (Steve), Lucas Cole (Tracy), Tom Tedesco (Trish), Michelle Festa (Ken), Tim Tedesco (Donna), Ron King, Jennifer King (Tom), Alex Tedesco (Kristine) and Joe Tedesco; thirteen great-grand children, Susan Brooks, Samuel Festa, Isabella Festa, Frank King, Kimberly King, Marissa Smith, Jacob Smith, John Tedesco, Anne Marie Tedesco, Michael Tedesco, Jacob Cole, Carson Cole and Jaxon Tedesco. Devoted and loving full-time aide for almost two years Kat Matthews and part-time Holly, Darlene and Tiffany. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her eight siblings, Albert, Walt, Fred, Joe, Chalie, Bill, Ida and Jule.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, January 10, 2014, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
Mrs. Tedesco was the owner of Joe’s Shoe Store, 526 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City for more than 25 years with her late husband Joe. They loved to travel and built a summer home at Gandy’s Beach with her son Tom in 1972, which she continued doing after the loss of Joe in 1982. She enjoyed living at Gandy’s Beach every summer until only about four years ago when she went to live with her granddaughter.
When her grandchildren were young she was fondly known as Mom-Mom Shoe Store and taught each one of them how to play cards, and never “let” them win.
She was a devoted life-long parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, a past member of St. Mary’s PTA, a long time member of the Gloucester City Seniors Association.
