(Sept. 27) The NJ Run for the Fallen honors service members who fought and died in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. Relay teams will run from Cape May Light House and cover 172 miles ending at the N.J. Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel on Friday. Teams are scheduled to stop at various "Hero Markers" in Ocean City starting 3:05 p.m. They will stop at each Marker to present an American Flag and biographical card to waiting Gold Star families and to salute members of the community who support the memory of our fallen veterans.

(Sept. 28) Walk for the Wounded: This is a 3 mile walk on the Boardwalk supporting Operation First Response. Registration begins 8:30 a.m. in front of the Music Pier Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. A ceremony honoring our soldiers begins 9:30 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 10 a.m.   

Operation First Response draws attention to the plight of tens of thousands of returning soldiers who are wounded and whose families are facing significant financial and emotional challenges as their loved ones recover. Its goal is to raise funds to help meet the critical needs of these families, many of whom are in crisis right now in hometowns across the country. Operation First Response delivers 90 cents of every dollar raised to wounded soldiers and their families. Special guests in Ocean City will be Chris Ford, former Boston Celtic coach and player who will speak at the ceremony and Michele Dawn Mooney, anchorwoman for NBC-TV 40 who will sing the National Anthem.

(Sept. 28-29) MS City to Shore Ride: Over 7,000 cyclists will raise more than $5million to combat Multiple Sclerosis in one of the country's largest bike tours. The ride is fully supported with catered rest stops and SAG transportation. It is a scenic ride over the flatlands of South Jersey to Ocean City. The ride was started 35 years ago by TV anchor Larry Kane who met with Ocean City officials at the Plymouth Inn to plan the ride. He was motivated by the memory of his mother who suffered and died from MS.  Kane and about twelve of his friends participated in the first tour. In a few years, Kane built the event into a major fund raiser promoting it heavily on his Philadelphia TV station and through his contacts.

(Sept. 28) The Matt Portabella Band featuring members of The Hooters and Smash Palace. (Oct. 6) John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers third annual HERO Walk. Registration 9 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk. Walk begins at 11 a.m. The 5K Walk helps to raise awareness so the Foundation can continue its mission to prevent drunken driving tragedies by promoting the use of safe and sober designated drivers. Last year 2,000 supporters helped the non profit organization raise over $100,000  for the campaign.  The event is one of the largest walks held annually in Ocean City. It was established in memory of Navy Ensign John R. Elliott of Egg Harbor Township, who lost his life to a drunken driver after graduating with merit from the United States Naval Academy in July of 2000.  Lindsey Petrosh, Miss New Jersey 2012, will be grand marshal and sing the National Anthem.  For information, call (609) 626-3880 or visit www.theherowalk.org.

(Oct. 11-13) My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra: Presented by the Greater Ocean City Theatre Co, celebrating the music, the man, the icon of cool. Featuring 53 songs from the legendary career of Old Blue Eyes. The song and dance revue includes four professional singers and dancers who will recreate nostalgic memories and iconic musical hits. (Oct. 12) Annual Mile Long Fall Block Party and Fireworks Display: Block Party stretches from 5th to 14th Streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Asbury Ave. It features 400 crafters, food vendors, music and more.  In the evening, there will be family night entertainment on the Boardwalk with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. For information, call (609) 391-0240.
