Father Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Two-Month-Old Daughter

September 30 Francis J. Chrzanowski (DOB 11/5/89), of 2144 Stella St., Philadelphia, pleaded guilty today (9/30) to causing multiple injuries to his two-month-old daughter while he was at his mother’s Williamstown NJ home on 10/24/10. Chrzanowski entered the pleas to second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child before Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr., who will determine the defendant’s sentence on 11/15. Since Chrzanowski was scheduled for trial next week, he had passed the deadline for accepting a plea agreement and thus left his penalty to the court’s discretion. Questioned about what actions he took that established his guilt, Chrzanowski acknowleged he “got frustrated” and pulled his infant’s arms, dislocating them. He also conceded to defense attorney Richard O’Brien that he “purposely threw” the child onto a sofa, causing additional internal injuries. The child was hospitalized for 17 days after Chrzanowski’s mother sought medical treatment... Read more →

Christie Signs Legislation Allowing For Easier Access To Services For New Jersey Veterans

press release Trenton, NJ – Building on his record of support for New Jersey’s veterans and their families, Governor Chris Christie today signed legislation requiring the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), upon submission of satisfactory proof, to indicate a veteran status on a driver’s license or identification card. The legislation will allow for easier access to services and incentives for veterans by conveniently identifying them as a former member of the Armed Forces. It builds on the “County Identification Cards for Veterans Act” signed by Governor Christie in 2012 that empowered county officials to create identification cards for resident veterans. “Providing every possible support for New Jersey’s veterans and their families has been a priority of mine since taking office,” said Governor Christie. “Plain and simple, this legislation will make life easier and more convenient for veterans of all ages. With this single point of identification, veterans will now... Read more →

Speaker Boehner: The Senate Must Act

press release In this week’s Speaker Alert, we want to give you a brief state-of-play on efforts by Republicans in the House of Representatives to keep the federal government running and stop as much of the president’s health care law as possible. “The House worked late into the night Saturday to prevent a government shutdown,” Speaker Boehner explained earlier. “And the Senate now must move quickly, today, to do the same.” The plan passed by the House and awaiting action by the Senate would… …keep the government running: As Speaker Boehner has said repeatedly, “the American people don’t want the government to shut down,” and Republicans are working to prevent it from happening; …delay the president’s health care law for one year: President Obama has already delayed health care mandates on big businesses, and has signed seven bills repealing or defunding other provisions of this train wreck. Obama Would Shut Down the Government, But Won’t Negotiate Obamacare Compromise

By Dan Weber President of AMAC He knows the law is flawed, so why doesn’t he ask for help in fixing it - WASHINGTON, Sep 27 – The president is ready to shut down the government rather than compromise on Obamacare, according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens. He’ll negotiate with Syria and Iran but he won’t sit down to hash out a suitable settlement with lawmakers who are doing what they were elected to do—implement the will of the people. Poll after poll shows that the American people do not want the Affordable Care Act [ACA] that was foisted on them by the Democratic Congress of 2010. Yet the president continues to threaten a shutdown of the government unless he can keep Obamacare just as it is. The Republican House passed a continuing resolution that will fund the government as of October 1. It... Read more →

Offense just as much to blame as defense in Eagles loss to Broncos /NJ.com

Eliot Shorr-Parks/NJ.com September 29, 2013 at 8:28:12 PM EDT It was a shoot-out just like everyone expected. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Broncos did most of the shooting. "The key for us was to keep us in the game offensively," Chip Kelly said after the game. "We didn't do that." The Eagles offense put up just 20 points in their 52-20 loss to the DenverBroncos, with 13 of those points coming in the first three-quarters when the game was still semi-winnable. The defense struggled like everyone expected, but it was the offenses inability to score that played just as big of a role in the team's loss in Denver. "We gotta get our momentum back," Vick said. "We lost it." Sure, the offense put up good numbers- 450 total yards,166 yards of which were on the ground. They also didn't turn the ball over, something they had problems with last... Read more →

NFL Week 4: Quick Reactions to the Early Games

September 29,2013 Four weeks into the season the NFL has been split into the haves and have-nots. There were four undefeated teams—a couple of which that have looked absolutely terrifying. On the other end of the spectrum there were still five win-less teams heading into Week 4 of NFL football. And the question on everyone’s mind is, how is that even possible? After the end of the early games only one of those win-less teams managed to actually get off the schneid, and that was because they were playing another win-less team. Go figure! Here are some quick reactions to the early games this week. Seahawks (4-0) defeat Texans (2-2) 23-20: Seattle had no business winning this game. They were a three-point road favorite against a team many experts believe can represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. And that was the analysis before the game even started. The Seahawks... Why My Son Ryan Ferguson Should Be Granted A New Trial / cnbnews.net

By Bill Ferguson / Oswego, Illinois My son Ryan Ferguson was convicted in 2005 for the 2001 murder of Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt. Ryan was convicted solely on the testimony of two witnesses. Both of those witnesses have since given written affidavits that their testimonies during the original trial were false. That leaves zero evidence against my son. No witnesses, no physical evidence, no DNA, no motive, in fact nothing tying him to the crime. Yet my son is currently serving a 40-year sentence for a crime he had no part in. The fact is Ryan should never have been convicted in the first place, because the main witness in his case was never credible. The jury simply believed Chuck Erickson’s story. Ryan and Chuck were Rock Bridge High School juniors who snuck into a bar on Halloween night 2001 and left sometime around 1:15 a.m. Ryan... Read more →

Five Things to Watch: Philadelphia Eages Can the Eagles front seven cause inflict chaos? The Philadelphia defense has quite the undertaking, one that’s been futile for Denver opponents in 2013: stop the vaunted Broncos aerial blitzkrieg. Given Peyton Manning’s triumph this fall, perhaps “impede” is a more reasonable aspiration. It’s also an attainable goal. The bloated figures (486.7 total yards, 42.3 points – both league-bests) and the Manning hysteria have manufactured an infallible perspective on the Denver offense. Nevertheless, the Broncos do have noticeable chinks in the armor. All-Pros... Read more →

NFL Kelly, Eagles wobble into Denver | FOX SPORTS

Updated Sep 27, 2013 12:17 PM ET Something is wrong with this picture. We’re one month into the season andChip Kelly has yet to be named NFL Coach of the Year. Wasn’t he supposed to have revolutionized the game by now? In a sensible world, no. We would have given the Eagles’ coach until at least mid-November. But after Philadelphia's opening win over the Redskins, Kelly was supposed to have already picked up the Nobel Prize for Offense. It’s all been a bit too much too soon for the man who was supposed to be a combination of Vince Lombardi, Steve Jobs and Sir Isaac Newton. Now here comes Peyton Manning on Sunday in FOX Sports' Game of the Week from Denver and a sobering prospect for everyone who unabashedly bought into the revolution. Could Kelly be another gimmicky college coach? Or even worse, Steve Spurrier without the swagger? We... Read more →

ARCHBISHOP CHAPUT’S WEEKLY COLUMN: POPE FRANCIS AND ‘THE INTERVIEW’

For Immediate Release September 25, 2013 By Archbishop Charles Chaput PHILADELPHIA PA--I had the gift of two unusual blessings last week. The first was a moment to greet Pope Francis in Rome after his Wednesday, September 18, general audience. We had met and served as delegates to the 1997 Special Assembly for America. Sixteen years have passed, but this Pope has a remarkable memory to match his generous spirit. He recalled a friendly conversation we’d had in great detail, and the events of those days that helped shape both of us as young bishops. The second blessing was being away from the United States on September 19 when Jesuit magazines around the world released the Pope’s remarks to Father Antonio Spadaro, S.J. Thanks to my schedule, I couldn’t read the full interview until I was on the plane home, four days after it appeared. But the emails I received about... Read more →

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I Like Being Old

RELATED CATEGORY THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Submitted by Howard "Butch" Shaffer As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world, too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play, on the computer, until 4 AM, or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will. I will walk the beach, in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves, with abandon, if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful.... Read more →

In Treating Prostate Cancer, Choices for Patients, Challenges for Clincians, Payers

An abundance of new therapy choices, combinations, and sequences are now available to treat prostate cancer. This offers hope for patients, but also new challenges for both clinicians and insurers. Plainsboro, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/19/2013 -- Not long ago, the range of options for a man diagnosed with prostate cancer was fairly narrow: surgery, radiation, or limited chemotherapy choices. Today, there are so many new therapies on the market, with so many possibilities for drug combinations and sequencing, that the questions for clinicians are complex: It’s not just which therapy or which drug, but for how long and when do you switch? The blessing of many new choices for prostate cancer patients, the challenges those choices bring, and the best environment for clinical decision-making were discussed in the latest expert panel convened recently by The American Journal of Managed Care. The discussion, moderated by AJMC co-editor-in-chief A. Mark Fendrick,... Read more →

SAINT KATHERINE OF SIENA SCHOOL AWARDED $20,000 GRANT

Recognized by the Healey Education Foundation for Advancement Successes PHILADELPHIA PA--Saint Katherine of Siena School in Philadelphia was awarded a $20,000 grant by the Healy Education Foundation at the Celebration of Achievement event earlier this month. Saint Katherine of Siena was selected from among 17 schools that submitted proposals on how the award would be used to significantly strengthen advancement efforts. “Its proposal was not only visionary and detailed just as any grant proposal should be, but it demonstrated a real understanding of the CSDP Methodology,” said Christine Healey, president of HEF. The Methodology establishes best practices in five key areas: governance, enrollment management, development, communications, and operations. Saint Katherine’s winning proposal highlighted its early achievements: enrollment growth of 11% in just one year, the... Read more →

52 Reasons Obamacare Can’t Work

Reposted from TomOhalloran.com Obama’s signature law falling apart on multiple fronts By Garth Kant Obama signs the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, his signature legislation, into law WASHINGTON – Rod Coons and Florence Peace, a healthy couple in Indianapolis, spend only $500 every year on medical care and say their current health plan works well for them – but Obamacare will soon strip them of that contentment, forcing them to pay soaring rates and accept inferior care because their existing plan isn’t “government approved.” And they aren’t alone. Many Americans don’t realize their health plans won’t meet Obamacare standards next year, experts warn. Abbey Bruce, a nursing assistant who works a second job cleaning, learned she will now pay a sharply higher deductible, because of Obamacare’s so-called Cadillac tax, which penalizes companies that offer high-end health care plans to employees. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, stands beside a towering stack... Read more →

Congressional Temper Tantrum

TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE Volume XVIII No. 38: September 20, 2013 Parents everywhere know that relenting to a temper tantrum just encourages bad behavior. With the government starting a new fiscal year October 1 and set to reach the debt ceiling shortly thereafter, the theatrics are in full display. Stomping their feet and holding their breath, policymakers are making all kinds of demands. But even if Congress manages to keep the government’s lights on and avoids having America’s checks bounce, we shouldn’t clap. By refusing to make any tough decisions to seriously rein in deficits they’ve put the country on a dangerous path towards another fiscal crisis. It’s the right time to talk about fiscal crisis since this week marks the fifth anniversary of the great crash that thrust the global economy into a free-fall. The one that brought us extraordinary actions including a $700 billion bank bailout—that morphed into... Read more →
