WOODBURY NJ--Funeral services were held today, Saturday, August 31, at the Wooster Funeral Home, Atco, for slain Woodbury gas station employee Surinder Singh. The service was followed by Ardas, a religious gathering of family and friends at the Sikh temple on Route 47 in Deptford NJ. Mr. Singh, a native of India, was a member of the Gloucester County’s Sikh community.
Mr. Singh, age 40, was fatally shot Sunday night, August 25, 2013 while working alone at the Garden State Fuel station, 958 North Broad St. where he had been employed for more than 10 years. He and his wife and children lived in Woodbury.
Investigators believe two males were involved in the shooting and both fled in the same gray sedan, driving from the station north on Broad Street after the 9 p.m. robbery attempt.
The GCPO and Woodbury Police Department continue to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Greg Malesich of the GCPO at (856) 384-5626 or Det. Tom Ryan of the Woodbury Police Department at (856) 845-0065. Anonymous tips can be communicated to the GCPO by texting GLOTIP & your message to CRIMES (274637).
A bank account, named the “Memorial Account for Surinder Pal Singh”, has been established for contributions to support Mr. Singh's wife and two small children at the TD Bank, 490 Mantua Ave., Woodbury NJ 08096. Contributions should be sent to that branch and checks written to the account name and number (4281207203).
A separate account was opened at the same bank branch for those who wish to contribute to a reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for murdering Mr. Singh. The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Woodbury Police Department have already posted an $8,000 reward. The reward account number at TD Bank is 4281207211. The account names are the same.
