07/29/13 Operation Cross Country—a three-day nationwide enforcement action focusing on underage victims of prostitution—has concluded with the recovery of 105 sexually exploited children and the arrests of 150 pimps and other individuals. The sweep took place in 76 cities and was carried out by the FBI in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as part of the Bureau’s Innocence Lost National Initiative. It is the seventh and largest such enforcement action to date. Strong Partnerships Operation Cross Country is part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative that was created in 2003 by the FBI in partnership with the Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), to address the growing problem of domestic child sex trafficking in the United States. The program brings state and federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and social...

by Michelle Andrews JUL 30, 2013 As the state health insurance marketplaces, also called exchanges, get set to launch in October, many people have questions about the coverage that will be offered there. Here are a few that were posed to me recently. Q. Are there unintended consequences of shopping through an exchange? For example, are the benefits of a plan with a lower monthly premium less comprehensive than the benefits of an expensive plan? And are there plans available only to people who qualify for subsidies, so that once income increases, the consumer must switch to a different plan? A. All plans sold on the exchanges must cover 10 so-called essential health benefits, including prescription drugs, emergency and hospital care, and maternity and newborn care. For the most part, the plans will differ not in which benefits they cover but in the proportion of costs that consumers will be...

The sun has barely risen and already dozens of Afghan men are swapping fistfuls of bank notes, frantically betting in one of the country's goriest pastimes: bird fighting. In a shady patch, under a cluster of trees in a Kabul park, two partridges face off at opposite ends of a small square of dirt. The spectators press closer, roaring the birds on as they clutch their cash. A man sprinkles water into the air to keep the stifling heat at bay for the birds, an action that recalls the throwing of salt at the start of a Sumo bout. "These...

(cnbnews.net)--Over the last 4 or 5 years, Cleary's Notebook has had several stories on the wild turkey population that has been taking over Gloucester, Brooklawn and other areas... and earlier in the year GCN reporter Anne Forline published an in depth article on the local turkeys. So how about one last photo from today of a young turkey family in Bellmawr along McClelland Ave? The adult and 5 young chicks have become regulars in the neighborhood. They've seemed to have found a safe home in a nearby natural area behind the homes which is basically untouched by humans. I noticed a Bellmawr group back in 2008 over at New St Mary's Cemetary on Browning Road, and about a year or so ago we started seeing a group of them consistently hanging around the Crescent Park neighborhood... frequently walking the streets of Romano, Chalmers, and McClelland Aves. It all connects to...

By: T. Shelton/July 28,2013 “Chicago is the most dangerous city in the country. It is even more dangerous than Detroit.” “Yea right. I know Chicago is dangerous but it is not bad as Detroit.” “I’m serious bro, it is horrible in Chicago.” That was an excerpt from a conversation that a Chicagoan and I had last year. I ended up telling the person that they was correct about Chicago. If you are a regular reader of the TS Report, I write about Chicago as often as I write about the Detroit Region. I think it is sad to see and hear about thedecline of Chicago. For us Midwesterners here, Chicago is like our Toronto or New York. But, it seems like I might have to go on vacation in Toronto or New York because Chicago is getting out of control. It is not even safe in the tourist areas anymore....

July 29, 2013 Bill Donohue comments on media reaction to remarks made by Pope Francis on homosexual priests: The pope speaks about materialism for one straight week in Brazil before millions of people, and his formal comments garner 74 news stories on Lexis-Nexis. He speaks off-the-cuff about homosexual priests before a handful of reporters on the airplane going back to Rome and his remarks trigger 220 news stories. One might logically conclude that the pope broke some new ground with his comments on gay priests. But he didn’t. When asked about homosexual priests, Pope Francis said, “If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?” He added that “The problem is not having this orientation. We must be brothers. The problem is lobbying by this orientation....” Pope Benedict XVI, responding to the homosexual scandal in the Catholic Church (one more time—less...

By Susan Kraemer New Jersey continues its incredible solar development – now rivaling California’s, as a result of its membership in RGGI and participation in regional cap and trade and renewable energy policy that makes new clean energy investment more competitive with fossil energy through the sale of SRECs. Two New Jersey installations break US records for size of rooftop installs this year. Completed in April, one is the largest solar installation now in operation in the US, and a second installation, even larger, to be completed by the end of the year, will then become the largest in the US. By the end of 2011 a 9 MW solar roof using panels from SunPower will be completed on the gigantic roof of the Holt Logistics refrigerated warehouse, enough panels to supply 80% of its huge electricity needs, while also earning a hefty hunk of change annually for making that...

By DIONNE CORDELL-WHITNEY MINNEAPOLIS (CN) - Facebook misappropriates people's names, photos and identities to profit from deceptive "Sponsored Stories," which are neither sponsored nor stories, but paid advertisements, a man claims in court. Allan Mooney sued Facebook in Hennepin County Court, "for appropriating the name, photograph, likeness and identity of plaintiff to advertise products, services or brands for a commercial purpose without plaintiff's consent and without remuneration." The complaint continues: "Plaintiff complains of wrongful conduct by Facebook which arose from what Facebook calls 'Sponsored Stories.' The term 'Sponsored Stories' is deceptive; 'Sponsored Stories' are neither sponsored in the sense that a benefit is being conveyed free of charges, nor are they stories in the usual and customary sense of the word. 'Sponsored Stories' are simply paid advertisements. By Colin Flaherty Special for CNBNews.net It seemed like a reasonable question: The AP reporter wanted to know if pundits and police over-reacted to the Trayvon verdict when they prepared for large-scale violence and chaos. I was supposed to know because I wrote a best-selling book on mob violence. Colin Flaherty MSNBC news analyst Toure said anyone who anticipated violence was a racist, blah, blah, blah. The other panelists mournfully nodded their heads in agreement as they always do when Toure makes one of his pronouncements on pervasive and permanent racism. Which is pretty much all the time. This week, AP and Time magazine reported the same thing: Not much violence. Over-reaction. Now they are wondering if all the preparations for post-Trayvon violence were racist. This is not a hypothetical question. It is the exact question that city leaders in Indianapolis had to answer just a few days after the...

Posted 07/25/2013 | AMAC In The Media, Press Releases 28 PC activists want to dictate ‘what is right and what is wrong.’ They tap our sense of fair play to justify their ends. - BOHEMIA, NY, July 26 – Police would be unable to provide eyewitness descriptions of perpetrators under a proposed New York City law that seeks to limit profiling of suspects. “It’s an overreach that would give criminals the edge and put innocent citizens at risk, all in the name of Political Correctness,” according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens. The law would allow the cops to describe the clothes the suspect might have worn in the commission of a crime, but that’s about it. It would leave them open to lawsuits if they say whether the individual was male or female, estimate how old he or she is, indicate whether the individual...

Trust us to do a better job for the taxpayer if we do it behind closed doors -- less histrionics, less playing to the camera, less political posturing, and less need to appeal to constituents and special interests. What a load of … Of course lawmakers – like anyone else – say and do different things in public than in private (exhibit A – Anthony Weiner), but that does not mean their official ruminations should not be public. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Hatch (R-UT) are just the latest lawmakers to promise better results from the back room. In their laudable effort at comprehensive tax reform they havepropounded a “blank slate” approach: eliminate all the breaks, loopholes, and incentives from the code and start over. All in the Family Part 2: On the Trail of Armored Car Robbers 07/26/13 Beginning in 1995, the Cabello family—husband Archie, wife Marian, and son Vincent—had managed to steal nearly $4 million in cash from armored car companies in three robberies over a period of 10 years, all while eluding authorities. But their crimes were about to earn them something they hadn’t bargained for—justice. Our agents had suspected the family since a 2005 Portland, Oregon armored car robbery in which $3 million in cash was stolen, but there was not enough evidence to charge the Cabellos with the crime—that is, until we started to follow their spending habits. “They were spending money they didn’t have,” said Special Agent Kenneth O’Connor, who joined the case in 2008 from our Portland Division. “They bought things and paid rent and utilities with more than 50 credit cards, and then used money orders purchased...

Posted on July 26, 2013/source NRA-ILA Anti-gun U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently urged members of Congress to uphold their oath to "protect and defend" the Constitution by passing harsher gun control laws. Yes, Pelosi is proposing that Congress should support the Constitution by radically violating it. Such is the deconstructionist mindset of modern-day gun-control advocates. As reported by CNS News, Pelosi made the plea in a press release marking the one-year anniversary of the Aurora, Colorado shootings. Said Pelosi: "In Congress, there can be no more fitting memorial to the lives lost in Aurora, in Newtown, and across the country than a concerted effort to enact commonsense gun safety legislation. We must uphold our oath to 'protect and defend' the constitution and all Americans by expanding background checks and keeping dangerous firearms out of the wrong hands." This video, presented by AFTERBURNER with Bill Whittle presents a different story about the Travyvon Martin/George Zimmerman case than what we have been provided with by the media. “Daniel Patrick Moynihan once remarked, ‘You’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts,’” and with those words, Whittle presents the facts, some of which many of us have never heard before. ~ cnbnews.net

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean Jr. stated the following regarding today’s announcement of Monday morning’s Senate session, which is currently devoted to one open space agenda item. “I’m glad that Senate Democrats have finally decided to show up to work in Trenton this summer,” said Kean (R-Union, Somerset, Morris). “But that’s only half the battle. I urge Senate President Sweeney to make this voting session mean more. Whenever we meet, we should be doing everything possible to address the people’s two top issues: taxes and jobs.” Senator Kean renews his call from earlier this month for Senator Sweeney to post Republican legislation that addresses the people’s priorities: http://www.senatenj.com/index.php/tomkean/with-end-to-sweeneys-bill-ban-kean-urges-swift-action-on-the-peoples-solutions/14354. Since then, one of New Jersey’s top competitor states, North Carolina, has taken monumental action in the form of tax simplification and reduction that will draw more students, families, innovators and job creators from New Jersey: http://www.senatenj.com/index.php/tomkean/senate-republicans-urge-democrats-to-finish-the-job-on-taxes-stop-exodus-to-nc/14414; http://www.senatenj.com/index.php/tomkean/kean-oroho-urge-democrats-to-enact-tax-cut-reforms-lest-more-families-employers-flock-to-nc/14404. “Perhaps the Senate President...

Todderick Hunt, NJ.com July 24, 2013 12:59:26 PM EDT The Scarlet Knights have already secured two commitments at the tight end position within the recruiting class of 2014. But while the numbers would suggest they move on from recruiting the position, the players they have committed are more of the in-line blocking variety than productive pass-catchers. Therefore, the Rutgers staff appears open to adding a third prospect at the position, one who not only has the strength and size to block, but also stretch the defense. Jamal Custis, a 6-6, 220-pound pass-catcher fromNeumann-Goretti (Philadelphia, Pa.) certainly fits the mold. And according to him, Rutgers is still actively recruiting him. "When I went up there, I got a chance to talk to coach Flood," said Custis. "He was telling me they had a couple players who were gonna commit at tight end. But they are more blocking tight ends and they...

Updated Jul 24, 2013 8:31 PM ET In sports, there’s the historical record: wins and losses, champions and MVPs, records and rosters. Then there’s what happened in the ring March 24, 1962, between Benny Paret and Emile Griffith, who died in his sleep Tuesday at age 75. It was the third championship fight between Griffith, from the US Virgin Islands, and Benny “The Kid” Paret, a Cuban. Griffith took the first, Paret took the second, and it is Paret who, March 24, 1962, is the welterweightchampion. During the weigh-in, Paret, as he did before the second fight, approaches Griffith, a flamboyant, impeccably dressed, high-voiced fighter, and calls him a maricón, Spanish for “faggot.” A month later, writing for Sports Illustrated, Gilbert Rogin calls maricón “the most vulgar epithet in that violent idiom,” and he mentions how Paret also patted Griffith on the backside. Gary Smith, writing for SI 43 years...
