Softball and Men’s Golf Represented Among Selections 


(June 11, 2013)NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A trio of student-athletes from Goldey-Beacom College, including sophomore outfielderAlexa Houston (Sussex Central H.S./Georgetown, Del.) of the softball team and junior Justin Lesko (St. Mark’s H.S./Newark, Del.) and sophomore Matthew Scheeper (Delsea H.S./Franklinville, N.J.) of the men’s golf team, have been named to the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic Team, it has been announced by CACC officials.

The CACC Spring All-Academic Team includes student-athletes from the conference’s 14 member institutions who participate in softball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s lacrosse and baseball. A total of 120 student-athletes were included on the CACC All-Academic Team.

In order to be named to the CACC All-Academic Team, recipients must have participated in a CACC Championship sport during the Spring season. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher through the Spring semester.

A health care management major with a 3.90 grade point average, Houston played in 41 games for the Lightning this year while starting 38 times. In the first game of the Lightning’s Apr. 21 doubleheader against Chestnut Hill, she went 2-for-3 with a run batted in. She also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the first game of a doubleheader sweep at Nyack on Apr. 27.

Named to the CACC All-Academic Team for the second time in his career, Lesko is an accounting major with a 3.65 grade point average. He competed in eight tournaments this season and posted an 82.92 scoring average. He shot a season-low 78 in the second round of the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational on Sept. 24 and also carded a 79 in the second round of the Wilmington University Spring Tournament on Mar. 29.

Meanwhile, Scheeper is an accounting major who holds a 3.79 grade point average. A participant in 10 tournaments this season, he earned an 81.94 scoring average. In the second round of the Rehoboth Beach Invitational on Sept. 24, he posted a season-low score of 75. He also tallied a 77 in the first round of the Peter King Memorial Tournament on Apr. 5.

During the 2012-13 academic year, a total of 22 student-athletes from Goldey-Beacom College were named to the CACC All-Academic Team.
