Social unrest will “dwarf the Rodney King and the Martin Luther King riots In an article entitled, America Will See Its Worst Race Riot Yet This Summer, Crime File News’ Paul Huebl remarks that the case against Zimmerman should never have been filed in the first place and that when the trial inevitably collapses with Zimmerman’s acquittal, “I fully expect organized race rioting to begin in every major city to dwarf the Rodney King and the Martin Luther King riots of past decades.” Huebl is a licensed private detective and a former Chicago police officer. “If you live in a large city be prepared to evacuate or put up a fight to win. You will need firearms, fire suppression equipment along with lots of food and water. Police resources will be slow and outgunned everywhere,” writes Huebl, adding, “America may see some combat related population control like we’ve not seen...

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE ARCHDIOCESAN FINANCIAL REPORT The wife of a friend once quipped that there’s not much sizzle or romance in balancing a check book – but try feeding the kids if you can’t. I’ve never forgotten her words. No sensible adult goes very long without paying close attention to the finances of his or her own family. And for good reason: Without the necessary resources, no family survives. If a family has financial problems, it needs to know why. That requires accurate information, no matter how complex and sobering, so the problems can be fixed. So it is with the Church. As I’ve said many times over the past 22 months, the resources of the Church don’t belong to the bishops or the clergy or some remote institution. They belong to her people. The Church is a steward. She holds her resources in trust for her people, to...

Cordray explained that U.S. Bank and DFS created the Military Installment Loans and Educational Services program, better known as MILES, to sell subprime auto loans to active-duty service members at communities across the country located near military...

She joined with other attorneys general in sending a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), warning about a practice known as "mobile cramming." Mobile cramming refers to the placing of unauthorized third-party charges on mobile phone bills. Millions of dollars are taken from people in this way, often without their ever knowing it. The charges usually range from $9.95 to $24.95 per month. They appear out of the blue on phone bills, for goods and services that were neither requested nor used. Many people don't notice the unauthorized charge on their bill and will pay it for several months. When they finally do notice it, they are often unable to get a full refund. Sometimes they can't even block future charges!...

Members of the Project 21 black leadership network are commenting. Jeantel, a friend of Martin since elementary school, spent several hours on the phone and texted with Martin on the day of this death, including during the moments before the altercation with Zimmerman that ended in Martin's death. In the long cross-examination, Jeantel was reported by the Miami Herald to be "annoyed and confused" during portions of the questioning. She was also caught in several lies. Jeantel also revealed that Martin referred to Zimmerman as a "creepy ass cracker," a term some may consider a racial epithet. Project 21 member Kevin Martin believes Jeantel's testimony, despite her alleged value to the prosecutors in the case, actually might have benefited Zimmerman's legal team. Martin said: "To say...

His most recent findings are convincing a growing number of biblical scholars and theologians that many of the actual messages contained in the New Testament on the subject of homosexuality are shockingly different from what has been previously thought. “When his writings are properly translated, it’s clear that Apostle Paul not only did not condemn homosexuals, but he openly defended them against the religious views of his...

The free event in the city's Seville Square is sponsored by Gay Grassroots of Northwest Florida, and celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Although Adams gave the material to "anyone who was willing to take it" and tried "not to be obnoxious or annoying about it," members of the Gay-rights advocacy group told him to stop, since it had a rule that any festival literature-distributors had to reserve a booth and pay a $25 vendor's fee....

STATEMENT OF ARCHBISHOP CHARLES J. CHAPUT, O.F.M CAP. In striking down Sec. 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in United States v. Windsor, the Court leaves intact – at least for now -- state constitutional definitions of marriage as an institution restricted to one man and one woman. As Justice Samuel Alito points out in his dissent, no federal “right” to same-sex marriage exists. The Constitution simply does not establish one. As Catholics we believe marriage needs to be strengthened, not redefined. It is a great gift to men, women, children and society. Affirming the true definition of marriage denies no one his or her basic rights. On the contrary protecting marriage affirms the equal dignity of women and men and safeguards the basic rights of children. Same-sex unions, whatever legal form they take, cannot create new life. They cannot duplicate the love of a man and...

U.S. Supreme Court building. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) By Michelle Bauman Washington D.C., Jun 26, 2013 / 09:39 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that a key part of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional, and the federal government must recognize “gay marriages” accepted by individual states. The 1996 Defense of Marriage Act – known as DOMA – “violates basic due process and equal protection principles applicable to the Federal Government,” said Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority. In a June 26 ruling, the Court said that section 3 of DOMA, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman for federal purposes, violates the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection guarantees. “The avowed purpose and practical effect of the law here in question are to impose a disadvantage, a separate status, and so a stigma upon all who enter into same-sex...

The administration is gearing up for a massive public relations push throughout the summer. New insurance exchanges in each state must be open on Oct. 1 to begin enrolling people in coverage that would begin Jan. 1. Polls show that public opinion of the law is negative, and deep misconceptions about the law have persisted even years after the fiery legislative debate of 2009 and 2010. "I'd say the most daunting aspect is that people still don't know enough about what's going to change in the law and don't have enough information — still have some misinformation," Sebelius said. In addition to high-level advertising campaigns, the enrollment push is hoping to target specific groups of uninsured consumers through the channels they already use and trust. The administration and its allies will be enlisting churches and other community groups to encourage people to enroll. "We have the next couple of months...

But this was real—and the stakes were high. The target was one of the nation’s largest retailers in one of America’s most populated areas. And the day of reckoning was Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year. It all started last October 15, when the Home Depot in Huntington, New York—a town on the north shore of Long Island—received an ominous anonymous note. The sender demanded $2 million or he would “shut down” three Home Depot stores on Long Island the day after Thanksgiving by remotely setting off bombs filled with roofing nails using a cell phone. Contact your NJ Assembly Members and urge them to let this measure come to the floor in order to let the voters decide! With bipartisan leadership, New Jersey has dedicated an average of $200 million a year for open space funding since the creation of the Garden State Preservation Trust in 1998. Most recently, voters approved the Green Acres, Water Supply and Floodplain Protection, and Farmland and Historic Preservation Bond Act of 2009, authorizing $400 million for open space, farmland, and historic preservation. These funds are fully allocated, and legislative action is needed now to continue New Jersey's legacy of open space, farmland, and historic site preservation. The Senate passed historic legislation June 20th with an overwhelming majority in order to provide a sustainable source of funding for Green Acres, Blue Acres, Farmland and Historic Preservation well into New Jersey's future. In order for this measure to be placed on...
