Monday was the second consecutive day black bear sightings were reported in the township, prompting police to issue a series of alerts as Memorial Day backyard barbecues and other festivities got underway.
There were reports that a black bear was making itself at home in the Church Street area Monday. On Sunday, a bear was spotted outside a home on Meadow Drive at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
According to Burlington County Central Communications, the first report Monday came in at 11:15 a.m. when a resident said a bear was seen “just standing there” near Church Street Kindercare, 641 S. Church St. Authorities would not reveal the identities of the callers and the child care facility was closed for the holiday.
By 1:30 p.m. there were sightings between Route 38/Interstate 295 and Church Street/Mount Laurel Road.
