 | The 22ndannual Harry James College Summer League begins on May 28. New Jersey City University retired Hall-of-Fame coach Charlie Brown oversees the eight-team league, which includes six college programs—NJCU, Berkeley College, FDU-Florham, Felician College, Kean University, and Stevens Institute of Technology—and two teams of assembled collegiate players—Morgan Athletics All-Stars and 'Team Blaze'.
The league features seven regular-season games contested primarily on Monday and Wednesday nights now through June 17. The quarterfinal round is Wednesday, June 19 and semifinals on Tuesday, June 25, with the championship being decided on Wednesday, June 26. All games will be played at Kean's Harwood Arena in Union, NJ.
NJCU has advanced to the league's championship game in 15 of 21 total seasons with seven first place finishes. 'Team Blaze' won the final six games of the 2012 summer league, including the championship, defeating Stevens in last year's final on a buzzer-beater.
The league, formerly known as the George Ballard Summer League and the Ballard/Stallworth College Summer League, was renamed in 2011 in honor of Harry James, the former East Orange Campus High School athletic director and Montclair State University athletic Hall of Famer, who passed away suddenly on December 4, 2010. James assistedBrown in organizing the summer league for many years prior to his death.
