McBride, 4x800m Relay Represent Hawks

PRINCETON, N.J. - In his final collegiate race, graduate student James McBride (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) took home the silver medal in the 10,000m to lead the men's track and field team at the IC4A Outdoor Championships this weekend. The Hawks competed at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium from May 10-12 and took 28th place out of 47 teams.

McBride posted a time of 30:26.30 en route to his second-place finish in the 10,000m as he picked up eight of SJU's 11 total points on the weekend. He edged out George Mason's Michael Conway (30:29.95), Bucknell's Michael McGowan (30:30.89) and Yale's Matt Thwaites (30:31.28) for the silver.

SJU's other three points came from the 4x800m relay team of junior Tommy O’Kane (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College), senior Dave Manion (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South), sophomore Steven Butenewicz (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional), and senior Andrew Townsend (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Technical). The quartet took third in its heat in a time of 7:35.21 before posting a finals time of 7:39.17 for a sixth-place finish.

Freshman Alec Peabody (Wyncote, Pa./Abington Friends) concludes his standout freshman campaign with an 11th-place finish in the 200m in a personal-record 21.58. Peabody recorded the top freshman time in the event and just missed qualifying for the finals by .15 seconds.

Coming off of a third-place finish at last weekend's Atlantic 10 Championships, junior Michael Rankin (Turnersville, N.J./Paul VI) took third in his heat en route to a 13th-place finish out of 32 competitors in the 5000m (14:33.95).

Graduate student Dan Roark (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) took 16th (9:10.87) in the 3000m steeplechase while sophomore Tyler Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) finished 22nd in the 400m (48.40).


Sophomore Tyler Dougherty (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) anchored a pair of relay squads that each placed in the top 20 on the weekend. The 4x400m relay of sophomore Brendan Robert (Media, Pa./Penncrest), junior Griff Roberts (West Chester, Pa./Devon Prep), senior Garrett Barbalinardo (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), and Dougherty took 16th (3:16.01) while the 4x100m relay of juniorDerrick Henry (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek), freshmen Peabody and Christopher Banks (West Windsor, N.J./West-Windsor Plainsboro), and Dougherty rounded out the top 20 of the event in 42.54.


The meet concludes Saint Joseph's 2013 outdoor track and field season.
