Roemer places 17th in high jump at NCAAs

LaCrosse, WI … Junior Brigit Roemer (Ewing, NJ/Ewing), a student-athlete for The College of New Jersey women’s track and field program, placed 17th overall in the high jump event at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.



Roemer posted a height of 1.60 meters (5’-3”), placing just one spot outside of All-American honors. The top eight finishers are named All-American, while nine through 16 receive All-American Honorable Mention citations. Elizabeth Evans, a senior from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, claimed the national title by clearing 1.79 meters (5’-10.5”).

After passing on 1.55 meters, Roemer cleared 1.60 in her first attempt. She took three approaches at 1.64 meters, but was unable to leave the bar untouched. Taylor Hudson of SUNY Cortland cleared 1.64 meters in her final attempt to claim 16th place overall.

Entering the national tournament ranked 17th overall, Roemer registered her best height this season at the New Jersey Athletic Conference championships by clearing 1.68 meters. She has twice been named All-NJAC First Team in the high jump event.

Tomorrow, senior Andy Gallagher (New Foundland, NJ/Milford) will race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. He posted the sixth-fastest time in the preliminaries on Thursday night with a time of 9:06.67. Classmate Steven D’Aiutolo (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) will also compete in the triple jump event.
