D’Aiutolo, Gallagher post top 15 finishes at NCAAs

LaCrosse, WI … A pair of senior track and field stars from The College of New Jersey registered top 15 finishes at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Senior Steven D’Aiutolo (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) placed ninth overall in the triple jump event with a leap of 14.67 meters (48’-1.75”). Classmate Andy Gallagher (New Foundland, NJ/Milford) finished 13th nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He completed the event in 9:30.37.
D’Aiutolo finished just one spot outside of All-American honors. In six jump attempts, he posted his top distance on his second try. Senior Marcus Smith of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the event with a distance of 15.65 meters (51’-04.25”). The eighth and final All-American spot went to Richard Pete of Buffalo State. He posted 14.70 meters (48’-02.75”) in his second attempt.
A New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team selection, D’Aiutolo broke the Lions’ program record in the triple jump at the 2013 ECAC Championships with a leap of 14.84 meters.
Gallagher qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals by posting the sixth-best time on Thursday night in the preliminary heats. He crossed the finish line 13th overall. Junior Michael DeLuc of Connecticut College won the national title with a time of 8:50.58.
Named the 2013 NJAC Outstanding Male Track Athlete and 2012 NJAC Runner of the Year in cross country, Gallagher qualified for the NCAA championships by breaking the school record. He posted a time of 9:04.62 at the IC4A championships earlier this month.
Junior Brigit Roemer (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) placed 17th at the championships on Friday night in the high jump. She cleared a height of 1.60 meters (5’-3”).
