ROWAN BASEBALL SEEDED THIRD IN NJAC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team is seeded third in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.  The Profs will host the fourth seed Richard Stockton College in the first round on Tuesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m.



Rowan is 28-12 overall, while Richard Stockton has a 23-16 record.  In the other first round games on Tuesday, the sixth seed The College of New Jersey (17-20) travels to the top seed Kean University (30-8) and the fifth seed Ramapo College (25-10-1) plays at the second seed William Paterson University (26-11).  Both games are at 3:30 p.m.

The remainder of the double elimination tournament continues on Thursday, May 2 at the sites of the three highest remaining seeds.  The tournament moves to the highest overall remaining seed on Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5.  The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.  Ticket prices for all rounds are $5 for adults and $2 for students with ID, senior citizens and children.

This is Rowan’s 11th straight appearance in the NJAC Championship Tournament.  The Profs have won 13 conference championships (2004, 2003, 1999, 1979, 1978, 1977, 1973, 1971, 1970, 1968, 1967, 1965 and 1958).  Last year in the tournament, Rowan defeated William Paterson, 7-6 in 10 innings in the first game and lost 12-7 against Ramapo in the second.  In the third round, Rowan had a 5-1 victory over The College of New Jersey.  Ramapo knocked Rowan out of the tournament with a 7-0 shutout.

During the regular season, Rowan split the doubleheader against William Paterson (3-2 L, 6-2 W) and lost both games versus Ramapo (4-2 L, 6-5 L).  Rowan defeated Richard Stockton, 9-7 at home and fell 6-1 on the road.  Against TCNJ, Rowan won 4-2 in Glassboro and 14-5 in Ewing. Last Saturday, Rowan had a 4-3 loss in the opener at Kean and came back to win the nightcap, 
7-4.

Kean is the defending conference champion and has five NJAC titles and three straight.  William Paterson has won the conference championship 12 times, while TCNJ has eight.  Ramapo was the NJAC champion twice.  Richard Stockton is looking to capture its first conference title.
