Philadelphia, PA - For the past few weeks, Actors Connection has been frequenting the Philadelphia area with scholarship programs and events geared towards helping talented students prepare for one-day intensives in Center City with casting directors and agents from NYC.

Most recently, Kids Program Directors Colleen Finnegan and Katelyn Riley offered free drama classes to several Philadelphia-based Boys & Girls Clubs. The classes were held after school on Friday, April 5th at the Bridesburg, Wayne, and Wilson Park Units. Younger students were taught the basics of improvisation and creative thinking while older participants worked with commercial scripts. The programs were well-received in each location.

Denise Matza of the Wilson Park Boys & Girls Clubs comments, "Our youth had a great time and learned a lot about what it takes to be an actor. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were talking about it long after they left." Jason Newman of the Bridesburg unit says, "It is always difficult to try and find new ways to get children to express themselves, especially young boys. Finding words to give voice to emotions that many children just don't have the vocabulary for is a daily struggle for me and my staff.  Actors Connection did an amazing job of getting even my most quiet and shy kids up and helped give them a voice that, I think, even surprised them." The Actors Connection team visited three of the twelve clubs active in the Philadelphia area.

Local students interested in acting will participate alongside scholarship winners selected earlier this month in intensives and seminars for actors and models of all ages on April 20th and 21st. Subjects include:  "How To Break Into The Business In Philadelphia," Acting For TV, film and commercials, "How To Break Into Commercial Print" and a showcase option for young performers.

All classes are taught by top NYC and Philadelphia casting directors, agents, and industry guests. Classes are focused on kids ages 8-17 with additional seminars for adults taught by an associate casting director from a major TV network and a commercial print agency owner. This weekend of events is open to the public through registration at ActorsConnection.com or by emailingcolleen@actorsconnection.com.

"We are thrilled to bring our programming to Center City Philadelphia.  We are looking forward to helping empower Philadelphia actors with training and connections that will help them create amazing careers in this industry. It's exciting to serve a new community, especially when we can work with organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs," says Colleen Finnegan, AC Philly Direct Program Director.

Since 1991, Actors Connection has been opening doors to NYC's top agents, casting directors, personal managers, and print agents. With over 150 seminars, classes, and special events a month, Actors Connection helps performers who are seeking representation, focusing on new areas of the acting business, striving to improve audition skills, and working to grow their professional networks. Actors Connection is headquartered in NYC, with additional regular programming in LA and now Philadelphia.
