The Gloucester Catholic High School baseball team is loaded with top-quality pitching, and senior Mike Shawaryn is its unquestioned leader.
He proved why again on Sunday.
Shawaryn fired his second no-hitter of the season in four starts, this time walking two and striking out 11 in a 3-0 victory overSt. Joe's-Metuchen at Diamond Nation in Flemington. The Falcons (8-3 overall) entered thegame ranked seventh in the state by The Star-Ledger.
The Rams (14-1), the top-ranked team in the state, scored twice in the second on a pair of errors. They added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Derek DeMaria(two RBIs), who scored John Theckston who doubled earlier in the inning.
Sean Breen was 2-for-4 in the win. St. Joe's committed four errors on the evening, leading to the loss for Brandon Bielak, who verbally committed to Notre Dame in December.
There were well over a dozen pro scouts in attendance to watch the game. Shawaryn reportedly hit 94 on the radar gun. He no-hit Glassboro on April 9.
