Gloucester Catholic, St. Joe-Montvale to meet May 4

Gloucester Catholic will face St. Joseph of Montvale in a South Jersey vs. North Jersey clash that could feature two pitchers projected as early-round selections in June's Major League Baseball draft.

The Rams (14-1), No. 1 in The Inquirer's South Jersey rankings and No. 1 in New Jersey in the Newark Star-Ledger rankings, will meet the Green Knights (9-0) at 6 p.m. May 4 at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y.

The date and time of the game were announced Thursday.

The battle of two of the state's best teams, as well as strong contenders to meet again in the Non-Public A state final, could include a tantalizing pitching matchup: Gloucester Catholic senior righthander Mike Shawaryn against St. Joseph senior lefthander Rob Kaminsky.

Shawaryn, a Maryland recruit, is projected as a third- to fifth-round pick in the draft. The 6-foot-3 athlete is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has struck out 41 in 25 innings and thrown two no-hitters.

Kaminsky, a North Carolina recruit, is projected to be a first- or second-round pick. The 6-foot athlete also is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has struck out 54 in 26 innings.
