Bellmawr Car Burglary Suspect Apprehended
Wednesday, April 10, 2013
Details from the Bellmawr Police Facebook page:
On 04-10-13 at 3:48am officers were dispatched to the area of
Grant Avenue and Park Drive for a report of a suspicious male
attempting to enter vehicles.
While en route to the call,
further information was provided indicating that an off-duty officer
from another jurisdiction had witnessed the event after paying
particular attention to his dog barking because he had seen the recent
post by this Department in reference to vehicle burglaries.
The
suspect fled from the off-duty officer but officers from this
Department and surrounding towns were able to quickly set up a perimeter
thereby preventing the suspect from escaping the area.
A
thorough search of the area on foot led to an assisting Mt. Ephraim
Police Department patrol officer locating the suspect hiding under a
deck in a resident’s yard and he was taken into custody without
incident.
Upon questioning by the Detective Bureau the suspect
admitted to at least eight other vehicle burglaries including those
mentioned in our post on 04-08-13.
Had it not been for the
immediate response of our officers and assisting agencies, due highly in
part to those officers continually patrolling these locations, the
suspect may not have been apprehended.
He was charged accordingly and remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
The
Bellmawr Police Department would also like to extend a special thank
you the Mt. Ephraim Police Department for the help in this case and to
all the Departments for their continued mutual aid in events such as
this.
