Man Calls 9-1-1 And Assaults Four GTPD Officers

press release

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ--On February 24, 2013 at approximately 7:58 PM, the Gloucester Township Police received a 9-1-1 phone call from a person described as a disoriented male requesting help. GTPD officer responded and arrived on location to a town home in the LaCascata housing development. The officers were met by the adult male caller in the residence who was standing on a stair case, sweating profusely, and appearing upset and disoriented.
The male, later identified as Ibrahim Dao, was yelling incoherently at the police officers and was believed to be under the influence of a narcotic in an altered state of mind when he displayed abnormal strength as he picked up one officer into the air and slammed him into a table. At that time an officer at the scene deployed his OC pepper spray, which had no effect on the male, who continued to violently resist arrest and fight with the officers.

Mr. Dao continued to physically assault numerous officers until he was eventually able to be handcuffed. Even after being handcuffed, Mr. Dao continued to attempt to assault the officers with his feet and shoulders. Mr. Dao was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. After treatment, Mr. Dao was transported to the Gloucester Township Police Department and criminally charged with aggravated assault on an officer resulting in injury, aggravated assault on an officer (3 counts), resisting arrest, and obstruction. Mr. Dao was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in default of $35,000 full cash bail.

Several officers were treated for minor injuries and decontaminated from the pepper spray and bodily fluids exposure from the accused during the incident. One officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a hand injury and later released that night.

Suspect: Ibrahim Dao - 28 year old male from the 200 Block of the LaCascata, Gloucester Township.
