LETTERS: Regarding CNBNews Column " Some Thoughts on Gun Control "

In response to the recent column SOME THOUGHTS ON GUN CONTROL by Bill Cleary, first I want to make it clear that I'm not a crusader or anti-gun. But God gave me a brain and the ability to think and reason. Images

I think your stereotyping with your use of the term liberal. Personally, I voted for Obama and support his belief  that America shouldn't be just about the 1 percent. But thats

only one issue and there is much I disagree with him about.

Another example of my way of thinking - After 9/11 I believe

the war against extremist Muslim terrorism should have been

over within hours after we learned who was responsible. A few

well placed small nukes can go a long way towards convincing

certain people the error of their ways. Am I exaggerating? Probably.

But thats not a very liberal view point is it?

So, I think your off base to say some liberal politicians are out

to advance their agenda's to pass more gun laws. I'm sure some

of them are but I think many of them are middle of the road like me

and using common sense.

I agree with them about bringing back the 'law' that banned

military type assult weapons like the AR-15. Also the high

capacity magizines. How many shots does 'Joe Hunter' need

to bring a deer down? And how many people would be alive

today if these shooters, mentally ill or not, had to stop and

reload or inject another round after every shot?

What's needed is a ban on the assult weapons and high capacity

magizines, plus a standarized federal law requiring tougher checks

for criminal records and mental health checks. And these 'checks'

need to be appliied to all purchasses made at gun shows too.

I only say federal laws because the current political atmosphere is

living proof that the different states will never agree on anything.

And you better believe the NRA will fight more strict background

checks too.

I really believe that what I'm saying, along with 'real justice' for all

crime, but especially murder can make a difference.

Before anyone tries to give me the NRA 'line' about the

Second Amendment being taken away, I have a question for

them. These weapons have already been banned before and

the 'Second' is still there isn't it?

I also suggest they read a recent story by New Jersey Media

writer Bob Ingle about who the NRA really represents these days.

And I'll give them a hint, it isn't them.
