Harry E. Boulden, Sr., of Gloucester City passed away on January 26, 2013, at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Bernice (nee Kahlan). Loving father of Kevin G. (Ruth), Gregg, Denise Boulden-Dunn and the late Harry E., Jr. Father-in-law of Ellen Boulden. Devoted grandfather of Jennifer, Kevin, Jr. (Ellen), Maddy Meehan (Joey), Ashely Myers (Shane), Dalton Dunn, Brett, Andrew & Amanda Boulden and great grandfather of Brett, Axel and Kevin, III. Harry was 1 of 13 siblings and is survived by his sister Beverly Stout.
Harry graduated from Gloucester City High School, Class of 1949, where he was a star football and baseball player. He also played the trumpet in the school band. After graduation Mr. Boulden played football for the Mustangs, a local semi-pro football team. Harry served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Boulden was one of the first employees of the Hess Oil Refinery in Pennsauken. After retiring from Hess he worked for several years for the Gloucester City Housing Authority.
Mr. Boulden was a member of the Gloucester City Concerned Citizens and the Gloucester City Independent Party. An avid golfer, he also loved eating blue claw crabs. One of the summer trips he enjoyed was the annual crabbing trip to the Chesapeake Bay, Rock Hall, MD with the group from Caps Cafe. He was a lifetime member of Memorial Athletics Association and an avid supporter of Gloucester High School Athletics.
Bill Cleary, owner of CNBNews and former publisher of the Gloucester City News said, “One thing you could be sure of, if one of his grandchildren were playing a sport he would be in the stands rooting them on. He had a wide smile, and when he laughed a twinkle would come to his eyes. Everyone loved Harry. He was the life of the party.”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 10am to 12 noon Saturday, February 2, at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.
Funeral service is 12 noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment Woodbury Memorial Park, Woodbury.
