Energy Assistance for Older Adults Available

(Woodbury, NJ) – Gloucester County’s Division of Senior Services/Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ARDC) is supporting older adults with all assistance programs that help with energy bills.  Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert Damminger and Freeholder Lyman Barnes said that applications will be taken for the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) now through April 30, 2013.

“LIHEAP assists low-income households with their electric, gas, oil and other types of fuel.  This critical federal program can make a big difference to help residents who struggle to keep warm in the winter because they cannot afford their energy bills,” said Freeholder Director Robert Damminger.

Freeholder Lyman Barnes said that staff will also assist screen to see if those inquiring for assistance are eligible for the Universal Service Fund (USF), a program created by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to help assist with electric and natural gas costs.

“No resident should be without a warm place to call home this winter,” stated Freeholder Barnes, Liaison to the Department of Health & Senior Services.  “In the cold winter months ahead we want our seniors who are having a hard time to make ends meet to make sure they get the assistance they need.”

The Freeholders said that in addition to senior and disabled residents, low-income families can visitwww.mynjhelps.org to see what programs they may be eligible for and apply online for assistance.

Seniors and disabled residents can call the Division of Senior Services/Aging and Disability Resource Connection at 856-384-6900 for more information and to learn about the proper documentation needed to apply.
