Obiturary: Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos and Wonder Bread as Hostess files Bankruptcy

 Dearly Beloved,

We are gathered here today to mourn the death of an American legend: Hostess.

In the sixties, Hostess said even a bomb could not kill the Twinkie, but sadly, the fallout from the recession has done exactly that.

Hostess sent out information yesterday that they are going out of business.

This beloved company baked Twinkies; Ding Dongs; Ho Hos; Drake's cakes and of course that space-age bread, Wonder Bread.

People all over the country have been making a run on supermarkets to quickly buy up all of their favorite treats.

The company released a statement to the press yesterday, saying that

their company is unprofitable "under its current cost structure, much of which is determined by union wages and pension costs."

Nearby in Wayne, New Jersey, workers at the union Hostess plant beg to differ. About 320 people work at this plant, which comprises 20 percent of the total Hostess staff of 18,000.

And just in case you are hoarding those Twinkies for a rainy (and not skinny) day, forget about it. They only last about 25 days, and not forever as many have claimed.

Rest in Peace Twinkies!

Hostess promises to try to sell their most successful items, along with their secret ingredients, so there may be a sugar lining here down the Candyland road....if you get my sugar drift.
