Dear Conservative, Mitt Romney can't win the White House unless he wins Ohio. That's where we come in. Have you seen the Obama Phone lady? If you haven't, click here right now. We believe that this shocking video of an Obama supporter in Cleveland claiming that President Obama "Gave us a phone" is so damaging that it could be fatal to the President's hopes of winning Ohio. This is it--this is the October surprise. We are already on air with $35,000 on TV Ohio. But we must raise another $51,824 to expand our TV ad buy into key swing counties like Toledo, Youngstown, and Akron. Will you help us? This commercial is a microcosm of the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans want to create an environment where free people make their own choices and pursue their dreams. President Obama and the Democrats want to create a dependency on Government...

The Libyan controversy allows him to ignore his economic failures and lack of vision on the stump - BOHEMIA, NY, Oct 26 – The Libyan cover up has given President Obama an unexpected, albeit tragic, way to avoid talking about his economic failures and his lack of vision for the fiscal future of the nation, according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens. “In the weeks leading up to the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi, the president was backed into a corner on the key issues of the presidential election campaign—the economy, the national debt, job creation, Social Security, Medicare, energy independence. He and Vice President Biden were hard pressed to articulate their positions on these topics and resorted to attacking their opponents and the ideas they put forth for getting the country back on the road to prosperity. October 29, 2012 Every election year Americans argue about the scale and role of government. This year is no different. In Catholic thought, government has an important but carefully limited role, with a special stress on local accountability and ensuring public safety. This year, a storm like Hurricane Sandy has the power to show public officials at their best or worst. While Sandy is far from over, Philadelphia's Mayor Michael Nutter, Pennsylvania's Governor Tom Corbett and other governors and mayors of the tri-state area have so far responded quickly and vigorously in serving their people where it matters most - at the local and state levels, where the "common good" has flesh and blood meaning. Governor Corbett and Mayor Nutter, as well as all of our region's emergency responders, have the gratitude of the whole Catholic community. As the storm continues, Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and...

Obamacare Watchdog: Posted 10/26/2012 | In The News, Obamacare Watchdog 3 Provided by Kaiser Health News – by Phil Galewitz - Oct 23, 2012 - To recruit more doctors to treat the poor, President Barack Obama’s health law took a simple approach: temporarily pay doctors more money. Starting Jan. 1, primary care doctors when treating patients on Medicaid, the state-federal health insurance program for the poor, will get the same rates they are paid when caring for seniors in the Medicare program. The higher rates will last for two years. While Medicaid fees vary by state, they are generally far below Medicare and private plans. The change, which will cost $11 billion and will be paid by the federal government, means a 64 percent average pay increase, according to an Urban Institute analysis of the rates in 2010. But implementing the raise is not so simple. “The higher rate sounds...

Archbishop Chaput echoed the calls of other American bishops to have their flocks consider their faith in the voting booth. “We do believe in the separation of church and state, but we don’t believe in the separation of faith from our political life,” he said. “It’s very important for Catholics to make distinctions when voting that they never support intrinsic evils like abortion, which is evil in all circumstances....

As you may have noticed, Governor Christie has been out of state a lot lately, campaigning for Republicans all over the country. It's no surprise that our governor's in great demand - after all, he is a master communicator who knows how to frame an argument, using plain and memorable language to make the case. And his personality arguably is more magnetic than any New Jersey politician, present or past. And that's precisely why we need him back in New Jersey to actively campaign for the Higher Education Bond Issue. It's a proposal the governor supports - after all, he signed the bill that put the measure on the ballot - and argues for it emphatically and effectively on occasion. But for the sake of the future of our state and our students he must do so more often as the November 6 vote approaches. As I note in my...

PHILADELPHIA—Kenneth Richard Mazik, 25, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 16 months in prison for disrupting the services of the Philadelphia International Airport on March 1, 2012, and endangering the safety at that airport. U.S. District Court Judge Mitchell S. Goldberg also ordered Mazik to pay restitution to the airport, to the FAA, and to USAirways in the amount of $91,092; a $100 special assessment; and three years’ supervised release. At approximately 11 a.m. on March 1, 2012, Mazik crashed his black Jeep Grand Cherokee through a locked gate on the perimeter of the airport as an airplane was approaching for landing. He turned onto runway 9R, running over and damaging two of the runway threshold lights that alert approaching aircraft to the beginning of the runway. At the time, the incoming airplane was approaching that same runway. Mazik then sped down the runway with the airplane approaching...

After reading the Courier Post article by Lucas Murray about Gloucester City fining owners of unkempt properties, I found my experience to be totally opposite. From May 16 to August 17 I have made 24 phone calls to City officials, mainly Inspector Joe Stecklair, Jack Lipsett and Mayor William James, concerning the two properties bordering my home in Gloucester Heights. Both properties fit the description city officials claim to be “unkempt properties.” On May 30 Stecklair met me at my home and after seeing the situation said, “John, I didn’t know it was this bad, you shouldn’t have to live like this.” He then called the “out-of-town owner” and said, “Jamie I’m here at Princeton Ave. There’s a problem, its bad out here, something must be done immediately.” A 2 p.m. meeting was set for that day. The other property on Oxford Avenue, an abandoned, bank-owned house with a collapsed...

The mission of Gloucester City’s Feral Treasures is to help reduce the feral cat population with a humane cycle of trap, neuter and return (TNR). One of the group’s volunteers, Doran, understands why people might be upset about Gloucester City’s cat population. However, she said, “It’s not the cat’s fault it got dumped.” Doran serves as Feral Treasures’ secretary and she is joined by a team of dedicated volunteers. They include Sue, who is the group’s president; Theresa, who serves as the organization’s trapper; and also Kathy,...

for poor administration of New Jersey Homekeeper Program, calls for reforms Trenton, NJ – On Wednesday during a special joint committee hearing held by the Assembly Housing and Financial Institutions Committees, Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, Executive Director of NJ Citizen Action, New Jersey’s largest homeowners loan counseling agency, criticized Governor Christie for failing to help struggling homeowners and called on the State to implement better foreclosure mitigation services. “New Jersey has put in place a great program to help people facing foreclosure, but the program has been run poorly and too few have been helped,” said Salowe-Kaye. “New Jersey has more foreclosures than 48 other states yet we are dead last in getting foreclosure relief money to the people who need it.” New Jersey received $300 million in federal money to help support the Homekeeper program, a relief program meant to help struggling homeowners stay in their homes. To date the state...

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama isn't talking about it and neither is Mitt Romney. But come January, 163 million workers can expect to feel the pinch of a big tax increase regardless of who wins the election. A temporary reduction in Social Security payroll taxes is due to expire at the end of the year and hardly anyone in Washington is pushing to extend it. Neither Obama nor Romney has proposed an extension, and it probably wouldn't get through Congress anyway, with lawmakers in both parties down on the idea. Even Republicans who have sworn off tax increases have little appetite to prevent one that will cost a typical worker about $1,000 a year, and two-earner family with six-figure incomes as much as $4,500. Why are so many politicians sour on continuing the payroll tax break? (AP) Chart shows increase in Social Security tax in 2013 for various income...

The Rolling Stones' "Tongue and Lip Design" logo designed by John Pasche in 1971 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) by Lee Habeeb – For the 50th-anniversary tour, certain accommodations need to be made. I hope I die before I get old,” wrote Pete Townshend in 1965. It turns out that the Rolling Stones don’t just refuse to get old — they refuse to stop touring. The band announced, then postponed, and then re-announced new tour plans, assuring fans they’ll be on the road in 2012–2013 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. But there’s a new twist: This tour will take into account the aging nature of the band, and of its fans. Indeed, the new tour, tentatively called the Steel Wheelchairs tour, was delayed because of technical and health issues involved in doing live events with such an old audience, and such old musicians. “This tour is different from others we’ve done,” the...

CNSNews.com) – A little-known section in the Obamacare health reform law defines “full-time” work as averaging only 30 hours per week, a definition that will affect some employers who utilize part-time workers to trim the cost of complying with the Obamacare rule that says businesses with 50 or more workers must provide health insurance or pay a fine. “The term ‘full-time employee’ means, with respect to any month, an employee who is employed on average at least 30 hours of service per week,” section 1513 of the law reads. (Scroll down to section 4, paragraph A.) That section, known as the employer mandate, requires any business with 50 or more full-time employees to provide at least the minimum level of government-defined health coverage to those employees. In other words, a business must provide insurance if it has 50 or more employees working an average of just 30 hours per week,...

About 35 members of that championship team along with members of the cheerleading squad were honored at halftime before a capacity audience at Gloucester High. GCHS hosted a reception for the team members and their guests following the game at Vitale’s restaurant. All South Jersey performers Steve Rotella and Jack Long along with quarterback Steve Johnson led a potent GC attack that season as the Rams posted one of the greatest seasons in school history. Philadelphia, October 18, 2012 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter released a statement on the passage of PA House Bill No. 1857, a measure clearing the way the way for the City of Philadelphia to implement the Actual Value Initiative (AVI), which will bring fairness, accuracy and transparency to the City’s long-broken property assessment process. “I am very pleased with the action that was taken by the House of Representatives and Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and I particularly want to thank the Philadelphia delegation in those bodies for their efforts on this matter, and the leaders of the delegation, State Representative Cherelle Parker and State Senator Shirley Kitchen. Equally important to the passage of this measure was the coordinated manner in which my Administration, City Council President Darrell Clarke and School Reform Commission Chair Pedro Ramos worked together to advocate for this bill; we made a number of visits...
