37 Years Since Deptford teen’s unsolved murder

Tuesday, Oct. 30 marked 37 years since the murder of 17-year-old Deptford  Township NJ resident Patrick O’Neill in his Almonesson Road home, a homicide which remains open and still under investigation.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for O’Neill’s death. A friend found him dead of gunshot wounds inside his house on the afternoon of Oct. 30, 1975.  No one else was at home.  Investigators believe the Deptford High School student may have walked in on a burglary.

Det. Bill Perna, of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, took over investigation of the case more than a year ago, reorganizing its voluminous files and re-interviewing many persons police spoke with at the time of the murder.

According to Det. Perna, “we have gone into many new areas in the investigation. People are providing information.  We are working jointly with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service regarding DNA in this case.”

Anyone with information on the death of Patrick O’Neill is asked to contact the Prosecutor’s Office  at (856) 384-4645, the Deptford Township Police Department at  (856) 845-2220 or provide a tip anonymously by texting GLOTIP & message to CRIMES (274637)
