KING AND QUEEN OF PLOP
TO WELCOME FALL SEASON, AUG. 31
Ocean City has an unusual way of welcoming the fall season. Four years ago, we initiated the Mr. Fall Gal and Mr. Fall Guy contest also known as the King and Queen of Plop competition. The event will be held on Fri., Aug, 31 at 11 a.m. on the 9th Street Beach opposite the Music Pier.
Contestants are asked to greet the fall season, always a lovely time of year, by falling dramatically (and in slow motion) to the sand. Those performing the most dramatic renditions will be crowned the King and Queen of Plop.
After the winners are announced, all contestants will hold hands and perform a mass plopping, as a goodwill, no sore loser gesture.
Contestants may register starting 10:30 a.m. at the 9th St. Beach. Entry is free and prizes will be awarded.
Some special guests include the Nancy Fox sopranos who will sing an aria then sink to the sands after exhausting their vocal cords; Trash Buster, the City's Canned Crusader, who will sing his theme song, "Stand By Your Can and collapse;" Suzanne Muldowney, who will perform an interpretive dance to Falling Leaves and the World's Only Wind Chimes Band that will perform Twinkle, Twinkle Falling Star.
The above will not be eligible for the Plop crowns as they are considered professionals.
The contest is open to all amateur ploppers who wish to test their plopping skills in competition and be admired by quizzical beach goers. Costumes and props are permissible. All contestants must sign a waiver freeing the City of liability. Parents must sign for underage ploppers. Entry is free and prizes will be awarded. All contestants will receive a certificate signifying that they have participated in this important event.
This is our way of emphasizing that fall is on its way and that it's a great time in Ocean City. The weather is usually pleasant, the pace is less hectic and we have events planned right up until First Night and First Day at the Beach, our gala New Year's Eve celebrations.
