Red Cross Opens Evacuation Centers

Miami, FL (August 25, 2012) – At the request of local emergency management officials, the American Red Cross will open evacuation centers in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. The Miami-Dade and Broward Offices of Emergency Management may open further centers, as required by hurricane conditions.
The Red Cross evacuation centers currently open in Miami-Dade are:

In Broward County (scheduled to open at 7pm tonight):

ArthurAsheMiddle School (Special needs shelter)

*Pet-Friendly Shelter, only pre-registration pets are accepted.
Please call your respective county at 3-1-1 for any questions regarding shelters and hurricane preparation.
Suggested items to bring to a Red Cross Hurricane Evacuation Center:
- Drinking water
- Non-perishable food
- Baby food and diapers
- Battery-operated radio, one flashlight per person, extra batteries
- Prescription medicine
- Blankets, pillows, and/or sleeping bags
- Car keys
- First Aid Kits
- Identification and valuable papers
- Toiletries
- Change of clothing
- Cards, games and books
DO NOT bring the following:
- Pets to a non-pet-friendly shelter, unless it is a service animal
- Firearms
- TVs
- Furniture
- Alcohol, drugs
