Governor's School of Engineering and Technology Scholars present research projects

Rutgers is hosting 87 motivated, high-achieving high school students in this year’s New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology. Groups of scholars will describe and demonstrate the 25 projects they worked on during the four-week session on the last day of the program, Friday, July 27. Projects include finding ways to improve chronic wounds and developing technology for renewable energy and wastewater treatment.

In addition to working on projects, Governor’s School scholars also attend classes in subjects such as particle physics, solar cells, robotics and computer programming. They also take field trips to corporate and industrial sites in and around New Jersey, such as a nuclear power plant; a high-performance networking firm; and a pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing site.

This year’s scholars come from 19 of New Jersey’s 21 counties. More than 90 percent of scholars from previous years’ programs have pursued technical higher education and careers.

This year’s program is funded by Rutgers University, the State of New Jersey, South Jersey Industries, PSE&G, Morgan Stanley and Lockheed Martin.
